tZERO said Intercontinental Exchange, or ICE, has agreed to participate in its latest financing round and, as part of that investment, will receive a license to use tZERO’s blockchain patent portfolio. The license will support the development of a New York Stock Exchange-affiliated tokenized securities platform under ICE, referred to as the Digital Trading Platform, along with other possible use cases. tZERO said the portfolio covers 23 patent families and 103 patents tied to core parts of the security token lifecycle, including compliance-aware transfer logic, upgradeable smart contract frameworks, scalable corporate actions processing, and broker-level identity interoperability. The two companies also signed a memorandum of understanding under which tZERO will act as a core design partner for digital transfer agent and broker infrastructure supporting on-chain settlement. Under the MOU, ICE and tZERO plan to develop standards for digital transfer agents, tokenization agents, and broker users on the platform, while also evaluating whether tZERO tokenized assets could be used in collateral management across ICE clearinghouses and affiliated entities.
tZERO said Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) has agreed to participate in its latest financing round. As part of that investment, ICE will receive a license to use tZERO’s blockchain patent portfolio for the two companies’ joint development of an ICE-owned, New York Stock Exchange-affiliated tokenized securities platform called the Digital Trading Platform, as well as other potential use cases.
According to tZERO, the patent portfolio includes 23 patent families and 103 patents. The coverage spans core parts of the security token lifecycle, including compliance-aware transfer logic, upgradeable smart contract frameworks, scalable corporate actions processing, and broker-level identity interoperability.
MOU sets out platform infrastructure work
The companies also signed a memorandum of understanding, or MOU. Under that agreement, tZERO will serve as a core design partner and help develop digital transfer agent and broker infrastructure to support on-chain settlement on the trading platform.
The MOU says ICE plans to work with tZERO to establish standards for digital transfer agents, tokenization agents, and broker users on the platform. If relevant regulatory, technical, and operational requirements are met, tZERO is expected to be designated as the platform’s certified digital transfer agent and user.
Collateral management use case under review
The two sides will also evaluate the possible use of tZERO tokenized assets in collateral management across ICE clearinghouses and affiliated entities.
