A UK man identified as Chris has recovered Bitcoin he lost access to when trading platform Intersango collapsed in 2014. At the time, the holdings in his wallet were worth about £4,000. Intersango had more than 5,000 accounts when it went under.
According to BlockBeats, Chris spent years trying to contact the company without success and at one point gave up. He described watching Bitcoin keep rising in price as feeling "like being hit hard in the stomach." Earlier this year, he tried again and hired a lawyer to help prove ownership of the lost coins, which amounted to several dozen BTC.
Months later, the Bitcoin was returned to him. The recovered holdings are now worth about £3.3 million. The report added that Bitcoin potentially worth hundreds of millions of pounds may still sit in an account belonging to one of the company’s co-founders, and former users could be able to reclaim assets if they can provide sufficient proof of ownership.
