ChainCatcher reports that Unitas Labs officially launched its interest-bearing gold asset XGLD today. The asset is backed 1:1 by Tether Gold (XAUt), a tokenized gold product issued by Tether where each XAUt represents one troy ounce of London Good Delivery gold, providing solid physical backing for XGLD.
According to the official announcement, XGLD is designed to break the traditional zero-yield nature of gold. While maintaining exposure to gold price movements, holders can earn passive yield continuously through specific strategy mechanisms designed by Unitas Labs. This innovation brings gold, a classic safe-haven asset, deeper into the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, offering a new asset option that combines value storage with yield generation. The launch of XGLD marks the formal entry of gold assets into the interest-bearing DeFi era.
The introduction of interest-bearing gold assets provides a new practical case for the convergence of traditional assets and DeFi, reflecting the steady progress of real-world asset tokenization in the crypto market.
