The US exchange-traded fund market has accelerated sharply, according to a post from The Kobeissi Letter on X. Over the past two months, about 390 US-listed ETFs were launched, marking the largest two-month issuance increase on record and more than tripling the pace seen at the start of 2024. The data also points to a clear tilt in product design this year: roughly 54% of newly launched ETFs have used derivatives-based strategies, while more than one-third have been structured as leveraged or inverse products. Separately, fund issuers have already filed applications for more than 1,000 leveraged ETFs so far this year. Based on that pipeline, the market expects ETF issuance to continue rising in the period ahead. The figures show not only a jump in the number of launches, but also a growing concentration in higher-risk and strategy-driven ETF products.
