Odaily reported a packed set of premarket headlines before the U.S. open, with index futures, commodities, large-cap tech developments, and AI-related updates all in focus.
Among major U.S. equity benchmarks, futures were mixed. Dow Jones futures fell 0.15%, S&P 500 futures rose 0.09%, and Nasdaq 100 futures gained 0.24%.
Oil, precious metals and European equities move in different directions
Oil prices showed narrow moves. WTI crude futures rose 0.24% to $81.447 a barrel, while Brent crude futures added 0.09% to $87.148 a barrel.
Spot precious metals moved higher in short order. Spot gold climbed 0.65% to $4,379.08 an ounce, and spot silver rose 0.85% to $64.99 an ounce.
Europe’s three major equity indexes were also split. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 slipped 0.01%, France’s CAC40 edged up 0.06%, and Germany’s DAX30 advanced 0.81%.
Nvidia says Spectrum-X switch has entered mass production
Nvidia said its Spectrum-X Ethernet silicon photonics switch has entered full-scale mass production. According to the company, the product cuts the number of lasers by 4x, lowers power consumption by 5x, and improves mean time between interruptions, or MTBI, by 10x.
Apple faces foldable-device constraints and pushes China AI rollout
Apple’s first foldable device, referred to in the report as iPhone Ultra, may at first be sold only in limited quantities in the United States because production remains highly difficult. The report also said Apple may not be able to announce the device’s price at its September launch event.
Separately, sources said Apple has trained an AI model specifically for the China market, with Alibaba said to have supported the training work. Apple Intelligence completed its filing in China last month, leaving rollout conditions in place.
Goldman keeps Buy on SanDisk and points to HBF upside
Goldman Sachs said SanDisk has sent a stronger-than-expected signal on long-term profitability and shareholder returns. The bank also said high-bandwidth flash, or HBF, creates added growth room for AI storage. Goldman maintained its Buy rating and its $2,200 target price.
AI spending data, OpenAI revenue outlook and Fed pricing
Data from Silicon Data showed that since mid-July, actual customer spending on models from leading U.S. AI labs has fallen by nearly one-quarter. Chinese AI companies, the report said, have raised concern in the U.S. tech sector because their models offer strong cost performance.
People familiar with the matter said OpenAI’s annualized revenue could exceed $40 billion based on current performance. That would be roughly double the level at the end of 2025 and could support its listing plans.
On the macro side, after U.S. retail sales unexpectedly declined in July, traders reduced bets that the Federal Reserve will raise rates more than once before mid-2027.
