U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs turned negative on a half-year basis
According to DWF Labs, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded their first-ever net outflow on a half-year basis in the first half of 2026. Total net outflows reached $5.4 billion, marking the first time the category has posted a negative half-year flow since launch.
Before this period, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs had delivered net inflows in every half-year reporting window following their debut. That makes the H1 2026 result a notable reversal in the broader capital flow pattern that had defined the product segment up to this point.
The change may reflect a shift in institutional allocation
DWF Labs said the latest change in flows may reflect an adjustment in crypto asset allocation strategies among institutional investors. Based on the information available, no further breakdown was provided for individual ETF products, monthly flow distribution, or the exact composition of the outflows.
The report was published by Techub and cited WuBlockchain as the source. At this stage, the confirmed facts are limited but clear: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $5.4 billion in net outflows in H1 2026; this was the first half-year net outflow since launch; and all previous half-year periods had recorded net inflows.
