U.S. Stock Indexes Rise in September
U.S. stock indexes closed higher on the last trading day of September, with all three majors posting monthly gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.18% on the day, bringing its September gain to 1.74%. The S&P 500 added 1.06%, up 1.52% for the month, while the Nasdaq Composite led with a 1.40% daily gain, ending September up 1.86%.
Gold Stocks Show Divergence
Gold and silver stocks were mixed. Barrick Gold fell over 5%, while Newmont Mining gained 4.22%. The Gold Miners ETF (GDX) rose 3.94%, the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 2.50%, and the SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) gained 1.86%.
Crypto Stocks Surge
Crypto-related stocks rallied sharply, with the following percentage gains:
