USDC Activity Surges Across Blockchains
USDC transaction activity has expanded sharply over the past 18 months, with Dune Analytics data showing monthly transaction count reached 613 million in January 2026. That represents a 20-fold increase, underscoring how stablecoins are becoming more deeply embedded in onchain payments, transfers, and everyday financial workflows.
The growth has been led primarily by Polygon and Base, which together account for 68% of all USDC transactions. Polygon has emerged as the most active USDC chain by transaction count, averaging more than 12 million daily transactions. Base, meanwhile, stands out in value terms, processing $5.3 trillion in USDC volume in January 2026 alone.
Low Fees and Faster Settlement Drive Usage
According to the source material, the rise in USDC usage is closely tied to the low-cost and high-speed infrastructure offered by these networks. Those characteristics make them well suited for frequent transfers, smaller-value payments, and operational financial flows that require quick settlement.
At the same time, Circle has continued expanding USDC’s infrastructure footprint. The company has extended native USDC support to 30 blockchains and upgraded its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol. That system has already enabled more than $126 billion in seamless transfers, helping reduce friction for users moving liquidity between different chains.
Traditional Finance Partnerships Add Momentum
USDC’s expansion has also been supported by partnerships with major financial and commerce platforms, including Visa, Stripe, and Shopify. These relationships have strengthened the stablecoin’s integration into payment acceptance, merchant services, and broader financial settlement use cases.
Taken together, the jump in transaction count, broader native chain support, and rising cross-chain transfer volume suggest USDC is evolving beyond a crypto-native settlement asset. The latest data also highlights the growing strategic importance of low-fee, high-throughput networks such as Polygon and Base in the competition for stablecoin activity.
