Avalanche (AVAX) is hovering near the $12 mark as the first U.S.-listed exchange-traded fund tracking its price goes live. At press time, AVAX traded at $11.76, up 1.5% in 24 hours, though it has oscillated between $11.30 and $12.73 over the past week. The token is down roughly 8% in the last month and nearly 66% year-over-year.

Spot market activity has cooled significantly. AVAX's 24-hour trading volume dropped 16% to about $272 million, signaling thinning participation. Derivatives data tells a more nuanced story: futures volume plunged nearly 20% to $539 million, while open interest rose 11% to $495 million. This setup—lower turnover but rising open interest—often precedes a sharp directional move once the price breaks its range.

VanEck AVAX ETF Details

VanEck launched the first U.S.-listed Avalanche ETF on Jan. 26 under the ticker VAVX on Nasdaq. To attract early inflows, VanEck waived fees on the first $500 million in assets until late February. The fund offers direct exposure to AVAX price and includes staking rewards—up to 70% of its holdings may be staked, potentially locking a meaningful portion of supply and reducing circulating tokens if demand holds.

The ETF lowers the barrier for traditional investors. Exposure through standard brokerage accounts eliminates the need for wallets or crypto exchanges, opening the door to institutional and conservative retail capital.

On-chain metrics show the Avalanche network surpassing 1.38 million active addresses, with integrations like PayPal USD via LayerZero adding practical utility. Combined with the ETF, these fundamentals provide a stronger backdrop than price alone suggests.

AVAX Technical Picture: Compression Awaits Catalyst

From a technical standpoint, AVAX is tightening around the $11.50–$12.00 support zone, an area that has repeatedly drawn buyers. Daily Bollinger Bands are narrowing, typically preceding a larger move. The relative strength index sits in the mid-40s, momentum weak but not accelerating to the downside. Price remains below declining moving averages clustered between $13.00 and $13.20.

A daily close below $11.50 would expose the $10.00 psychological level. Conversely, a clean breakout above $13.00 could trigger short covering and push the price toward the $14.80–$15.00 resistance zone.
