Vertcoin (VTC) remains one of the few cryptocurrencies minable by CPU/GPU at home, thanks to its Verthash algorithm. This guide covers its ASIC resistance, Windows mining steps, and 2023 price predictions.

Launched in 2014, Vertcoin (VTC) was once touted as a major Bitcoin competitor. Its key differentiator: strong resistance to ASIC mining hardware, allowing individual miners to use regular PCs and graphics cards. As of June 2023, the network hash rate stood at 3,483 GH/s, with a block time of 2.2 minutes.

From Lyra2REv2 to Verthash: Keeping ASICs Out

Vertcoin initially used the Lyra2REv2 algorithm, but upgraded to Verthash in January 2021. Verthash ties hashing power to GPU memory speed, similar to Ethereum's old ETHash, leveling the playing field across hardware classes and blocking ASICs and FPGAs. The same upgrade activated SegWit and Lightning Network support, enabling layer-2 scaling.

Halvings occurred on schedule: from 50 VTC to 25 VTC in December 2017, then to 12.5 VTC in December 2021.

Mining on Windows: One-Click Miner Setup

The official One Click Miner bundles a wallet and simplifies the process. Download the correct version from GitHub, extract the archive, and run the application. A security pop-up may appear — click 'Read more' then 'Run anyway.' Set a strong password and hit 'Start mining.' The software generates the Verthash data file and begins mining within minutes.

Default pool is Zpool.ca (0.5% fee), adjustable in Settings. The interface shows estimated 24-hour earnings and allows coin transfers by entering a receiver address and password.

VTC Price Predictions: Wide Range for 2030

Vertcoin surged from ~$0.07 to $9.97 in the 2017 bull run, but by June 2023 it traded around $0.099 with a market cap of just $6 million. Predictions for 2030 vary drastically: AMBCrypto sees $5.03–$7.55 (avg $6.29), Bitnation expects $0.83, PricePrediction $0.11, WalletInvestor $2.33, while TradingBeast forecasts a drop to $0.0035.
