Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has continued to sell Ether as the token remains under pressure. On-chain tracker Lookonchain said Buterin withdrew 3,500 ETH from the decentralized lending protocol Aave on Sunday, then sold 571 ETH worth about $1.13 million. Over the past two days, he sold another 1,869 ETH, valued at roughly $3.67 million.

Wallets linked to Buterin have sold more than 8,000 ETH since Feb. 2

Data cited in the report shows wallets associated with Buterin have sold more than 8,000 ETH since Feb. 2. The selling follows a public statement he made on Jan. 30, when he said he would gradually withdraw and sell a total of 16,384 ETH. The proceeds were earmarked for Ethereum ecosystem development, open-source software, and other key projects.

Buterin also said at the time that the Ethereum Foundation had entered what he described as a period of “moderate austerity,” and that he would use personal holdings to help cover funding needs across the ecosystem. That explanation addressed the purpose of the sales. The market focus has stayed on the pace of the transactions.

ETH fell 7.6% over the past week and touched $1,828

Ether moved lower during the same period. CoinGecko data shows ETH fell 7.6% over the past seven days and briefly dropped to $1,828 early on the 24th, its lowest level since May 2025. On a longer timeline, ETH has remained in a broad downtrend since reaching its record high of $4,946 in August last year, with no clear rebound yet visible in the data cited by the report.

Arkham says Buterin still holds about $429 million in ETH
