Waymo has started offering autonomous pickup and drop-off service at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, adding the location to its growing airport network. Riders can use designated autonomous vehicle zones at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, according to the company. The launch makes Las Vegas the sixth major airport market served by Waymo, following earlier rollouts tied to airports in Phoenix, Nashville, San Antonio, San Francisco, and San Jose.
The move comes shortly after Waymo opened its Las Vegas robotaxi service to the public in September. The company said its service area in the city now spans 24 square miles. For now, airport trips will be limited to a small group of riders before broader access is opened to all customers.
Competition in Las Vegas is also building. Amazon-owned Zoox is already operating at the airport, while Tesla and Uber have received approval from state regulators and plan to deploy thousands of autonomous taxis on Las Vegas streets next year, according to TechCrunch.
