WeChat Pay has introduced an AI-only card aimed at AI Agent spending scenarios. The card is structured as an independent mini wallet that is separated from the user’s main wallet, creating a distinct payment entry for consumption initiated through AI services. The test centers on the question of whether the AI Shopping era has arrived, and how far an AI Agent can go in helping users move from service selection to payment.
Manual confirmation remains required for every payment
At the current stage, the WeChat AI card can be used in AI Agent environments such as Workbuddy. An AI Agent is able to initiate a spending request, but the payment process is not fully automated. Each transaction still requires manual confirmation from the user. In practical terms, the AI-only card does not allow an AI Agent to directly control the main wallet; it operates within a separated mini wallet and still depends on user approval before payment is completed.
The card is currently better suited to standardized digital services, including paid content, API calls and subscription services. These services have clearer processes and more fixed forms of delivery. For more complex daily-life services, such as ordering milk tea, the AI-only card is not yet able to reliably complete end-to-end fulfillment. The process from initiating consumption to confirmation and final service execution still has limitations.
