South Korea’s special semiconductor law takes effect

South Korea’s enforcement decree for the Special Act on Strengthening Competitiveness and Support for the Semiconductor Industry was approved by the State Council on Aug. 4 and will take effect on Aug. 11. The law, advanced through a presidential direct mechanism, details the composition of the special committee, procedures for designating semiconductor clusters, support for talent cultivation, and operation of special accounts.

Under the decree, applicants seeking semiconductor cluster designation must submit a construction plan covering basic goals, development direction, name, location, area, local industry and infrastructure conditions, and talent training and research infrastructure. Areas outside the Seoul metropolitan region will receive priority in cluster designation. Construction and operating costs for industrial infrastructure needed by semiconductor clusters may be covered by the national and local governments at 50% to 100% of total project cost. Facilities tied to redundancy, supply chain stability, and industrial security may receive full support.

The decree also says non-capital-region semiconductor companies and local skilled workers may receive priority support for employment matching and retraining, and it sets standards and procedures for designating institutions that train semiconductor specialists. Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan said he would work with relevant departments to advance the law’s main policy tasks.

Flash Trade may cease operations, AMA set for Aug. 11

Solana perpetuals platform Flash Trade said it may gradually shut down if it cannot find a suitable buyer. The team said the decision is not driven by funding issues. It cited changes in market direction, fewer market participants, its own view of where the crypto industry is heading, and a mismatch between its exchange operating philosophy and the sector’s current direction.

Flash Trade added that it cannot return funds to FAF token holders pro rata by freezing the AMM, so it is trying to sell its tech stack, brand, and intellectual property. Proceeds from a sale would be distributed to FAF holders in proportion to holdings, while the team and team tokens would not share in the proceeds. The team also removed the three-month delayed unstaking restriction, letting holders unstake immediately. Withdrawals will remain open. An AMA is scheduled for Aug. 11 at 00:00 to answer questions on the sale process and distribution plan.

Superseed to drop its self-built Layer 2 and return to Ethereum mainnet

According to a team announcement, Superseed will abandon its self-built Layer 2 and focus on launching self-repaying loan products on Ethereum mainnet. The project plans to deploy a native lending protocol and a stable asset called suprUSD. It also said “Super Strategies” yield strategies will be used to automatically repay user debt and improve the utilization of collateral assets. The native token SUPR will be used to improve strategy efficiency and potentially share in fee revenue.

Users have been asked to bridge out all assets on the Superseed chain, including USDC, USDT, oUSDT, cbBTC, OP, and ETH, by Aug. 15, 2026. After that date, assets other than SUPR may become unrecoverable, while SUPR would be reissued through a later contract.

IoTeX voting deadline

The IoTeX community, which describes itself as a DePIN + AI open ecosystem platform, has posted a proposal on protocol-native voter reward distribution. Voting began on Aug. 7 and runs through Aug. 15. The proposal would replace Hermes-managed off-chain voter rewards with a deterministic protocol-level distribution mechanism. The main changes include removing service fees so voters keep 100% of rewards, eliminating dependence on external servers, enforcing distribution through block validation, and supporting optional automatic restaking into staking buckets. Delegate nodes can set a commission rate, and a 0 setting preserves the previous model.

Zcash proposal submission deadline

The Zcash community has released a proposal for a token holder-led retroactive grants program. Users can submit details for work already completed, or nominate individuals, companies, or projects they believe should receive funding. Submissions close on Aug. 15.
