Western Union is expanding its blockchain payments push through a partnership with Crossmint that will bring the USDPT stablecoin to Solana. Crossmint announced on March 4 that USDPT will connect to Western Union’s new Digital Asset Network, linking on-chain dollar transfers with the company’s global payout infrastructure.
The model is built around a simple bridge: stablecoins move on-chain, while recipients can still access local cash through Western Union’s physical network. The company said its payout system spans more than 360,000 collection points across over 200 countries and territories, allowing digital dollars to be converted into local currency where the service is available. For remittance-heavy corridors, that cash-out layer remains central.
Anchorage Digital Bank set to issue USDPT
USDPT was first disclosed in October 2025 and is expected to launch in the first half of 2026. The stablecoin will be issued by Anchorage Digital Bank. Malcolm Clarke, Western Union’s vice president of digital assets, said the network connects digital wallets and platforms directly to the company’s payout rails, while partners such as Crossmint supply the technology needed to link blockchain systems with traditional payment infrastructure.
That structure keeps the transfer leg on-chain while preserving familiar cash pickup options at the receiving end. The setup is aimed at markets where users may want digital-dollar settlement speed but still rely on physical cash collection.
Crossmint adds USDPT to wallet infrastructure and APIs
Crossmint will integrate USDPT into its wallet stack and payment APIs, giving fintech companies and developers access through its existing tools. Co-founder Rodrigo Fernández Touza said the partnership connects digital dollar transfers with Western Union’s worldwide payout network.
Developers using Crossmint’s APIs will be able to build Solana-based applications that send funds on-chain and, where available, let recipients collect cash through Western Union locations. The system is designed so fintech apps can hold value in digital dollars, move funds instantly on-chain, and route into Western Union’s network when local currency is needed.
Solana has become a common network for payment-focused blockchain applications because of its fast settlement and low transaction costs. That has made it a frequent choice for stablecoin transfers and cross-border payment use cases, which aligns with USDPT’s rollout plan.
