TechFlow reported on June 11 that, according to Hyperinsight monitoring, the whale known for building short positions into rallies in Korean semiconductor stocks has adjusted its exposure. The address, 0x4c78...2444, reduced its SK Hynix (SKHYNIX) short position seven hours earlier and added to its Samsung Electronics (SAMSUNG) short position three hours earlier. The address remains fully positioned on the short side across its tracked holdings.
SK Hynix short remains close to $9.44 million
At present, the address still holds approximately $9.44 million in SK Hynix short exposure, with an unrealized profit of $357,000. Its Samsung Electronics short position is about $1.05 million, with an unrealized profit of $45,000. In addition to these two Korean semiconductor-related positions, the address also holds shorts in MU, DRAM, COPPER, NVDA, MRVL and BB.
The total value of the address’s positions stands at $24.24 million. Short exposure accounts for 100% of the portfolio, and leverage is 3.71 times. Over the past week, the address has recorded $3.09 million in perpetual contract profit, while unrealized profit currently stands at $569,000. Despite trimming the SK Hynix short, the address remains one of the largest short sellers of SK Hynix on the platform, according to the monitoring data cited in the report.
Korean semiconductor shares fall as broader market opens lower
The position adjustment came as Japanese and Korean equities opened sharply lower on the day. South Korea’s KOSPI index at one point fell by more than 4%. Samsung Electronics declined nearly 5%, while SK Hynix dropped more than 4%. SK Hynix had previously rebounded on positive news related to cooperation with Nvidia, but its share price came under renewed pressure in the latest trading session.
The report also cited a broader macro backdrop. U.S. CPI for May surged 4.2% year on year, reaching a three-year high. Trump stated support for incoming Federal Reserve Chair Warsh to make independent decisions, while the market formed expectations that next week’s rate decision would remain unchanged. Against that backdrop, the source described the whale’s repositioning as an effort to avoid short-term rebound risk while continuing to bet on a further catch-up decline in the semiconductor sector.
