ChainCatcher said the whale known as “Set 10 Big Goals First” kept posting updates on X about its latest trading moves and takeaways. The trader said it had considered buying back long positions around 72,500 and placed limit orders between 70,500 and 71,500, but those orders were never filled. It also placed a short order near 76,000, which did get filled. Price then kept climbing above 79,000. In hindsight, the trader said the mistake was not the medium- to long-term direction, but underestimating the strength of the rally and betting on a pullback too early. The whale said its profit is still around 70 million.

Whale tracks its trade and admits it misread the rally

ChainCatcher said the whale known as “Set 10 Big Goals First” kept updating its latest trading path and takeaways on X on Tuesday night.

The trader said it had thought about buying back long positions at 72,500, and had placed limit orders in the 70,500 to 71,500 range. Those orders never filled.

“I wanted to buy back the long positions I had closed earlier. I placed long orders ahead of time in the 70,500 to 71,500 range, while also placing a short order around 76,000,” it said.

“My expectation was that if price first pulled back to 70,500 to 71,500, I would re-enter the long. If it did not pull back and instead quickly pushed to around 76,000, I would trade for a pullback after the rise.”

In the end, the lower long orders were not filled. After the short at 76,000 was filled, price kept rising and moved above 79,000.

Looking back, the whale said the real mistake was not its medium- to long-term view, but underestimating the strength of the rally and betting on a pullback too early.

Even after the latest losing short, the whale said it still has “roughly 70 million in profit.”
