Wintermute said weaker summer liquidity, hawkish Fed signals and geopolitical uncertainty are pushing Bitcoin toward the lower end of its recent range, with $59,000 now a key level to watch.

Wintermute's OTC desk said Bitcoin is moving toward the lower end of its recent trading range, with $59,000 emerging as a critical level if selling pressure continues. The market maker linked the softer setup to last week's hawkish Federal Reserve tone, back-and-forth developments around Iran, and weaker capital momentum as the market enters the summer period.

Options pricing, however, does not point to an immediate breakout in volatility. Based on Wintermute's one-day straddle data, Bitcoin is expected to trade between $61,242 and $63,563 over the next 24 hours, while Ether is seen in a $1,606 to $1,694 range. That implies volatility of about 1.9% for Bitcoin and 2.7% for Ether. The expected move is tight, but the broader structure looks weaker.

Rising correlation is changing how crypto is being priced

Wintermute said correlations across digital assets are climbing, a sign that traders are treating crypto more as a single risk bucket than pricing tokens on project-specific fundamentals. When that happens, macro sentiment tends to carry more weight and asset-level divergence becomes harder to sustain.

Liquidity is another concern. Wintermute said market depth is fading as summer trading sets in, and spot Bitcoin ETF flow data still shows no clear return of fresh institutional buying. With buyers limited and pressure from sellers still present, the firm said $59,000 is the level that deserves close attention. It also marks an important bear-market low support zone.

Three catalysts could shape this week's direction

According to Wintermute, the near-term market path hinges on three factors. The first is what happens next with a US-Iran peace agreement and whether it can actually stabilize geopolitical tensions. The second is Thursday's US PCE inflation reading, one of the Fed's preferred gauges; a hotter-than-expected number could reduce rate-cut expectations and weigh on risk assets. The third is quarterly options expiry at month-end, which may trigger large rollovers and position unwinds from traders, increasing market swings.

At the time of publication, Bitcoin was trading around $62,764, down 0.1% over the past 24 hours. Wintermute said these factors will determine whether Bitcoin can hold its current support area.
