With the countdown to the 2026 World Cup underway, the sports collectibles market is once again in the spotlight. The tournament serves not just as a sporting event but as a catalyst for trading sentiment around physical cards like rookie cards and limited editions. In the traditional Web2 world, sports cards, Pokémon cards, and various collectible cards have already formed a multi-billion dollar ecosystem, yet challenges such as limited trading reach, opaque pricing, and illiquidity have persisted.

Recently, the on-chain platform MarketCards has moved to bridge real-world rare cards onto the blockchain. On June 4, the platform announced its debut MintBox subscription event, tokenizing the rights to 68 one-of-one rare sports cards it procured directly and offering them 100% to the public. Participation requires USDC on the Base chain, and the event has already surpassed 70% of its target, with total ticket sales exceeding $210k.

The MarketCards Platform and MintBox Mechanism
MarketCards is an on-chain asset platform focused on tokenizing physical collectibles like sports cards and rare cards. In the past, these assets circulated mostly within offline collector circles or Web2 marketplaces. By introducing on-chain ownership verification, public issuance, and secondary market trading, MarketCards aims to bring physical card assets into a more transparent and tradable ecosystem.
MintBox is the platform’s Tokenized Interest initial public offering mechanism. Once a card or a set of cards is tokenized, it is made available to all users through MintBox with publicly verifiable allocation rules. The debut event features 68 tokenized rights from rare cards, all offered to the open market.

How to Participate in the First MintBox
The participation process involves four steps. First, visit the MarketCards official website (https://market.cards/home) and log in with a Web3 wallet. Second, deposit USDC (Base chain) via the funding page. Third, click “VIEW MINTBOX DETAIL” to enter the subscription page. Finally, enter the number of Tickets you wish to purchase, with each Ticket priced at 10 USDC.

After purchase, the system assigns each Ticket a random 4-digit number (e.g., 2727) along with a timestamp. These two elements determine the lottery ranking and, ultimately, the chance to claim one of the 30,000 boxes.
Draw Rules: Draw Factor and Digit Matching
This MintBox uses a unique “Draw Factor” mechanism. After the subscription period ends, the platform will take the Binance BTC/USDC spot price at 00:00 UTC on June 8, keep two decimal places, and form a 4-digit number from the tens, ones, first decimal, and second decimal digits. For example, if BTC is priced at 77,795.60 USDC, the Draw Factor would be 9560.

Each Ticket’s 4-digit number is compared with the Draw Factor digit by digit; a match requires the exact same digit at the same position. The more matching digits, the higher the draw tier. In case of a tie in matching digits, Tickets are ranked by generation time—the earlier, the higher the place.

Tickets ranked 1–30,000 will receive corresponding Box numbers: rank 1 gets Box #1, rank 2 gets Box #2, and so on. Tickets ranked 30,001 or higher are considered losers, and the subscription amount can be manually withdrawn after results are announced.
Lucky Digit Referral Boost
The platform also includes a Lucky Digit mechanism to incentivize referrals. For each successful referral where the invitee participates and subscribes at least 100 USDC worth of Tickets, the inviter earns one Lucky Digit per Ticket, up to a maximum of three per Ticket. A Lucky Digit turns that specific position into a wildcard—any digit from 0 to 9 counts as a match, bypassing the Draw Factor requirement for that position.

Lucky Digits are only awarded to the inviter and are filled in the order the Tickets are generated, with a fixed unlocking sequence: first digit, second digit, third digit. The fourth digit always remains a precise match, preserving fairness while offering a tangible edge for those who actively refer others.
