World ID has announced a major protocol upgrade, saying its network now reaches 18 million users across 160 countries. The update focuses on expanding real-person verification into more consumer and enterprise use cases, with new integrations designed to improve authenticity, safety, and trust across digital platforms.
Tinder and Zoom Add New Verification Layers
The most visible part of the rollout is the addition of Tinder and Zoom integrations. On Tinder, users can now obtain a “Real Person Verification Badge”, a feature aimed at improving identity authenticity on the dating platform. Zoom, meanwhile, is introducing anti-deepfake verification to help confirm that meeting participants are real people rather than AI-generated impersonations.
World ID is also pushing into live-event use cases through a new tool called Concert Kit. The product is designed to reduce ticket scalping by using identity authentication, extending the protocol beyond social and communication apps into ticketing and event access.
Standalone App and Open SDK Broaden Access
Alongside the protocol update, World ID has released a standalone World ID app in beta, intended to support cross-platform identity verification. This gives users a way to carry and reuse their identity credentials across different services rather than being confined to a single application environment.
The company also said it is open-sourcing its SDK, allowing third-party developers to build on top of the system. That move suggests World ID is positioning itself not just as a consumer-facing product, but as a broader identity infrastructure layer that outside platforms can adopt.
Security Upgrades and a Push for “Human Continuity”
On the technical side, the upgrade adds multi-key management, key rotation, and account recovery. These features are meant to make the system more resilient and easier to maintain over time. World ID describes this framework as “Human Continuity”, emphasizing that users should be able to preserve a consistent verified identity even as devices, keys, or account settings change.
According to the announcement, Reddit, Razer, and Mythical Games are either exploring or have already integrated these standards. For monetization, World ID said applications will be charged based on active users, with fees settled through on-chain wallets or third-party services.
