World Liberty Financial, a crypto project tied to the Trump family, said it has entered a strategic partnership with satellite startup Spacecoin. The companies said the deal includes a strategic exchange of digital tokens and is intended to explore ways to combine decentralized finance with satellite internet connectivity.
Token swap opens a new line of infrastructure cooperation
The partnership starts with a token exchange between the two firms, but the stated goal reaches beyond treasury alignment. Both sides framed the move as an early step toward building solutions that connect financial activity with satellite-based internet access, especially in regions where connectivity is unreliable, censored, or too expensive. The premise is simple: if access comes first, financial services can follow on-chain.
Spacecoin recently sent three satellites into orbit as part of that effort. The company is developing a system designed to let users access the internet without relying on a specific service provider, opening the door to activities such as financial transactions and data storage. In October last year, Spacecoin told Reuters it had successfully transmitted encrypted information through space and described the test as an industry first.
Executives frame the deal around payments and first-time connectivity
Founder Tae Oh said the partnership with World Liberty can help supply the infrastructure needed for users to carry out financial transactions as soon as they come online for the first time. Zak Folkman, co-founder of World Liberty, said the project’s dollar-pegged stablecoin USD1 is meant to support real-world payments and settlement. He added that cooperation with Spacecoin is focused on testing how payment, settlement, and coordination could function where traditional financial rails are limited.
World Liberty launched USD1 last year. Media reports said the stablecoin’s circulation exceeded $3.3 billion within its first year, with part of that figure linked to a third-party investor using USD1 to purchase a $2 billion stake in crypto exchange Binance.
Bank charter push continues in parallel
Earlier this month, World Liberty said one of its subsidiaries had applied in the United States for a banking charter and planned to establish a national trust bank focused on stablecoin business. That filing comes as several crypto firms have started seeking preliminary federal regulatory approval for national trust bank status, aiming to tighten links between digital assets and mainstream finance.
The announcement centers on three themes: connectivity, on-chain payments, and stablecoin settlement. No detailed rollout timeline or product specifications were disclosed in the statement.
