X has started directing U.S. users from financial conversations on its timeline straight to a brokerage or exchange. When users tap a supported cashtag such as $BTC or $TSLA, they now see a live price chart and related posts, along with a Trade option that sends them to a partner platform.
The company announced the Cashtag Partner Program on Sept. 15 with five launch partners: Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase. The feature is now live.
Users who tap Trade are taken to the partner’s app or website, where they log in or open an account and place the order there. X does not execute, settle or custody the trade.
Trade routing added to cashtags
「Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself,」 said Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead.
According to Unchained, X is routing orders rather than handling execution itself. That lets the platform capture trading intent already present in finance and crypto discussions on X without taking on the regulatory burden of operating as a broker-dealer.
Partner coverage is not uniform
The available routes differ by partner. Gemini said its connection covers stocks and five named tokens: ZEC, HYPE, BTC, ETH and SOL. Kraken said U.S. users can tap any crypto cashtag and be sent to Kraken.
Interactive Brokers and Moomoo cover the equities side, which means the program is not limited to crypto. X has not published a full list of supported tickers.
Built on earlier cashtag upgrades
The feature builds on work X rolled out earlier this year. In April, the company turned cashtags into interactive pages with live charts and real-time data. Nikita Bier, then head of product, said at the time that the product would eventually include links allowing users to trade without leaving the app.
The rollout also fits Musk’s broader financial push since acquiring the platform, including money transmitter licenses across multiple U.S. states and the X Money payments product.
A similar model has been tried before
A version of the idea appeared earlier. In April 2023, Twitter partnered with eToro to route cashtag users to an external trading platform.
