XRP derivatives markets are undergoing a major shakeout. Over the past 30 days, open interest (OI) across leading exchanges has plunged, fueling speculation about an impending price move.

Exchange OI Decline: Binance -1.6B, Bybit -1.8B, Kraken -1.5B, OKX -446M XRP

According to crypto analyst Xaif Crypto, XRP futures open interest has fallen dramatically in the last month. Binance saw a drop of 1.6 billion XRP, Bybit reduced by 1.8 billion, Kraken by 1.5 billion, and OKX by 446 million. Combined, the four platforms shed approximately 5.346 billion XRP in open positions, worth billions of dollars at current prices. The data indicates traders are aggressively deleveraging rather than placing new bets, a classic sign of risk-off sentiment.

The pullback follows a period of heightened volatility. Market sentiment has shifted from greed to caution, with both longs and shorts closing positions simultaneously. The sharp OI decline suggests speculative capital is exiting the battlefield.

Historical Pattern: Washout Often Precedes a Big Move

Xaif Crypto notes that such a massive washout in OI historically precedes a major directional move. After open interest collapses, the market typically goes through consolidation before breaking out either up or down. The current deleveraging phase may be setting the stage for a fresh wave of activity.

Not all traders see a clear direction yet. Some believe XRP may need further consolidation, especially in the absence of a strong macro catalyst. However, the drop in OI creates room for explosive price action once a direction is chosen — lower leverage means higher potential volatility when the move comes.

For now, XRP spot price remains range-bound. Whether OI will stabilize at these lower levels and whether leveraged inflows will resume are key variables to watch.
