SWIFT's recent move to roll out a blockchain-based shared ledger has reignited debate about its relationship with XRP. While some see potential competition or collaboration, several analysts stress that XRP's global prospects hinge on its own network, not on partnering with the legacy messaging giant.
SWIFT Pushes Into Blockchain Territory
SWIFT, the financial messaging backbone for thousands of banks worldwide, revealed it has completed preparations for a shared ledger built on blockchain. The development prompted speculation about whether XRP and SWIFT would end up as rivals or allies. But market commentators point to Ripple's established infrastructure, which already connects directly to over 13,000 banks and financial institutions, bypassing SWIFT's intermediary model.
Community Split: Coexistence or Replacement?
One analyst put it bluntly: “XRP doesn’t need SWIFT. It already has access to more than 13,000 banks. It’s SWIFT that needs XRP.” CharuSan, a computer engineer and long-time XRP observer, argues that XRP was built as a modern alternative, not a complement, to legacy payment rails. He contends blockchain can render outdated systems obsolete, giving XRP an edge precisely because it operates independently from SWIFT. However, Vet, an XRP Ledger dUNL validator, warns against circulating unverified claims that SWIFT is already using XRP. He urges the community to focus on verifiable on-chain progress instead of hype.
Real Adoption Over Speculation
Consensus is emerging that the XRP Ledger's own technological evolution — speed, cost efficiency, and use-case expansion — will determine its global standing far more than any possible SWIFT tie. The debate has shifted from “SWIFT vs. XRP” to a recognition that independent growth through real-world adoption is the only sustainable path. Meanwhile, XRP trades above $1 with whale activity declining; analysts eye the $0.95–$1 support zone as critical. The market remains sensitive to macro signals, but the community's attention is on Ripple's regulatory wins and technical upgrades.
