A recent report by Messari, commissioned by Ripple and published on August 26, 2025, reveals that XRP is now positioned for U.S. spot ETF approval following key futures milestones. The report, titled "State of XRP Ledger Q2 2025," was independently produced by research analyst Matt Kreiser. It underscores how the SEC's new listing standards for crypto ETPs (including spot ETFs), made public in July, now require more than six months of futures tracking for a crypto asset before an ETP can be listed. XRP was listed on the Coinbase Derivatives Exchange on April 21, 2025, and on the CME on May 18, 2025, thereby meeting this requirement and clearing the path for approval and launch of U.S. spot XRP ETFs in the fall of 2025.
SEC Standards and Futures Milestones
The SEC's updated framework treats the maturity of the derivatives market for a given crypto asset as a core condition for ETF approval. With XRP futures now trading on two major regulated exchanges for more than six months, analysts believe the asset has satisfied the historical tracking prerequisite. Bloomberg ETF analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart have subsequently raised their approval odds for a spot XRP ETF to 95%, reinforcing Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse's assertion that an XRP ETF is "inevitable."
Market Capitalization and Ecosystem Growth
By the end of Q2 2025, XRP's market capitalization climbed 8.5% from Q1 to $132 billion, ranking fourth among all cryptocurrencies. The report highlights significant growth in stablecoins and tokenized assets on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin RLUSD surged 49.4% during Q2, closing with a $65.9 million market cap on XRPL, making it the largest stablecoin on the ledger. Circle's USDC, Braza Group's USDB, Schuman Financial's EUROP, and Straitsx's XSGD also went live, broadening the ledger's stablecoin base. Real-world assets (RWAs) hit a record $131.6 million market cap, fueled by Ondo's OUSG treasuries, Guggenheim's digital commercial paper, and Ctrl Alt's tokenized real estate. Infrastructure advances included the June 30 launch of the XRPL EVM sidechain, along with compliance-focused features such as TokenEscrow and a permissioned DEX.
Wave of ETF Filings
On August 22, a synchronized wave of amended S-1 filings was submitted to the SEC by Canary, Coinshares, Franklin, 21Shares, Wisdomtree, and Bitwise. Additionally, Grayscale filed to convert its existing XRP Trust into a spot ETF. Analysts view this clustering of submissions as evidence of active dialogue between issuers and regulators. Confidence in approval has grown markedly, with market participants now expecting the first spot XRP ETF to launch before the end of 2025. These developments further cement XRP's position as a leading crypto asset and provide institutional investors with a compliant gateway to gain exposure to XRP.
