The XRPL Foundation appointed Brett Mollin as executive director on Feb. 11, handing a longtime XRP Ledger insider a central role in the network’s next growth phase. The move puts governance, scalability, infrastructure standards, and resilience planning at the top of the agenda as activity across the XRP ecosystem continues to broaden.

In a post on X, Mollin said the XRP Ledger has reached a point where long-term stewardship is critical. He said his focus will be keeping the ledger resilient, scalable, and well-governed while supporting developers, infrastructure operators, and businesses building on the network, so the ecosystem can keep expanding on a stable base. It was a direct statement. The priorities were laid out plainly.

Mollin brings more than 11 years of hands-on XRPL experience

According to the announcement, Mollin has more than 11 years of experience building on the XRP Ledger as a developer, infrastructure operator, and community participant. Most recently, he served as Technical Director at Ripple, where he worked with developers, institutions, and ecosystem partners launching projects on XRPL. In his new role, he is expected to focus on scalability improvements, audit-ready infrastructure practices, resilience planning for transaction-demand spikes, and broader participation from developers, validators, and businesses.

The XRPL Foundation described itself as an independent organization incorporated in September 2020 to support the growth and adoption of the XRP Ledger. It operates under a nonprofit governance model overseen by a board of directors, while the executive director manages day-to-day operations and advances the ledger’s security, transparency, and decentralization. That governance structure frames the significance of the appointment.

Ripple executive backs the choice publicly

Support from Ripple leadership followed quickly. On Feb. 12, Ripple Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa Reece Merrick wrote on X that Brett is his go-to person on XRPL matters and said what sets him apart is not only technical expertise but also a deep commitment to the ledger’s growth and adoption.

Merrick added that Mollin combines deep technical knowledge with what he called a genuine vision for XRP’s future, and said he was eager to see the impact of the new appointment. Taken together with the foundation’s stated priorities, the leadership change points to a coordinated push around governance, scaling capacity, institutional engagement, and wider ecosystem participation on XRPL.
