Liquid Capital founder Yi Lihua said market views have diverged over the past two days as expectations around interest-rate moves re-emerged. Speaking at an exchange event at a business school in Shenzhen, Yi said the appearance of a bearish macro signal leaves two scenarios for the market. In one case, if rate hikes do happen, he expects a short-term move below 76,000 followed by more downside-range trading before prices resume climbing. In the other, if hikes do not materialize, he said the market could continue moving higher. Yi added that, regardless of which scenario plays out, spot exposure without leverage is the better approach. He also outlined what he sees as three opportunities over the next three years: roughly 4x upside in mainstream BTC and ETH spot positions, with up to 10x possible through active swing trading; 100x potential in trading infrastructure, which he described as blockchain’s core demand; and what he called IPOs as defined by CZ, referring to stocks and IPO listings moving on-chain, which he said could bring higher-quality breakout assets while the era of white-paper tokens comes to an end.

ChainCatcher reported that Liquid Capital founder Yi Lihua said the market has started to split over the past two days as rate-hike expectations came back into view.

Yi said this bearish signal opens up two paths. “Over the past two days, expectations of a rate hike have appeared, and the market’s direction has started to diverge. Since negative news has now emerged, there are two possible scenarios next. One is that rates really do get hiked. In that case, the market could break below 76,000 in the short term, keep fluctuating at lower levels for a while, and then move higher again. The other is that there is no rate hike, and then the market could keep climbing. No matter what happens, spot positions without leverage are the best option.” He said that if rate hikes do happen, the market could break below 76,000 in the short term, continue consolidating at lower levels, and then resume rising. But if no hike happens, he said the uptrend could keep going. Either way, he said unleveraged spot positions are the best choice.

Yi made those comments during an exchange session at a business school in Shenzhen. And he also pointed to several areas he believes could offer opportunities over the next three years.

Three areas Yi highlighted

  • Mainstream BTC and ETH spot positions could deliver about 4x returns, while stronger execution in swing trading could target 10x.
  • Trading infrastructure still has room for 100x opportunities. Yi said trading is still the core demand of blockchain. Simple as that.
  • IPOs as defined by CZ — stocks and IPOs moving on-chain — could bring what he called real dark-horse, high-quality assets, while white-paper tokens are expected to be left behind.
