Yuanta Securities Investment Trust said recent Threads posts claiming that Taiwan’s 0050 ETF is set for another split are false, and stressed that no split has been arranged or carried out for the fund this year. The company was responding to viral posts that used phrases such as “0050 split confirmed” and “hold through the end of July, and 1 lot becomes 20 lots.”
Posts on Threads pushed a “1 lot becomes 20 lots” claim
According to the report, the false information spread mainly on Threads. The language in those posts included “0050 split confirmed” and “the biggest ETF split in history,” and in some cases gave a specific pitch: investors who held the ETF through the end of July would see 1 lot turn into 20 lots. The report said those details were used to create urgency and encourage people to move quickly.
Yuanta issued a clarification on July 24 saying the company has not scheduled or processed any 0050 split this year, and that the claims circulating online are not official information.
The pattern: comments, private messages, then group invitations
The report described a repeatable playbook behind the posts. Accounts first follow targeted users, then try to get them to comment “0050” under a post or ask for details through private messages. That interaction is used to build an initial sense of trust.
Once users lower their guard, they may be invited into investment communities and then pitched unidentified investment products and messages. Some accounts were also described as possibly using the process to recruit members into illegal investment groups.
The rumor drew attention because 0050 had split before
The report said the claim was not entirely random, which made it easier to believe. 0050 did complete a 1-for-4 split in 2025, and that remained fresh in the minds of many investors.
By leaning on that earlier example and pairing it with language about a deadline and a sharp increase in share count, the people behind the posts made the false message look more credible. Yuanta’s position this time was direct: there has been no plan and no action this year for any 0050 split.
Yuanta says official channels are the only place to verify fund information
Yuanta said the Market Observation Post System and the firm’s official website are the correct channels for checking information on 0050, including distributions, performance, and annualized returns. The company added that it has no connection with the accounts spreading false claims and has never authorized any third party to publish related messages on its behalf.
For suspicious investment information, Yuanta advised investors to call its anti-fraud hotline at (02) 2777-5165 for verification to avoid losses caused by misleading posts.
Similar tactics also appear in crypto scams
The report added that this three-step pattern — using a hot topic, steering users into private contact, and then pulling them into groups for sales pitches — is not limited to stock-market ETFs. Similar scripts are often seen in crypto, including fake exchanges, fake airdrops, and fake limited-time campaigns.
Whether the target is an ETF or a cryptocurrency, the report said claims tied to “limited time,” “inside information,” or “join the group to know more” should be checked through official channels instead of unfamiliar chat groups.
