zERC20 has launched zBNB on BNB Chain, using ZK Proof-of-Burn to destroy original BNB and mint zBNB to fresh unlinked addresses, aiming to reduce on-chain traceability.

zERC20 has launched zBNB on BNB Chain, introducing a privacy-focused version of BNB that hides transfer history and account balances while keeping the token’s core functionality intact. Users can convert BNB into zBNB without installing extra software, and recipients can receive zBNB through a dedicated burn address. BNB Chain Growth Director Nina Rong said the rollout brings privacy-centered transfers into the BNB Chain ecosystem.

Burn-and-remint design breaks the address link

The protocol is built around ZK Proof-of-Burn. During a transaction, the original BNB is irreversibly burned, while cryptographic verification is used to issue fresh zBNB to a new address that is not directly linked to the sender’s original wallet. zERC20 Lead Developer Nuno said BNB Chain is known for transparency, but users now have the option to shield their activity when they choose.

The system also allows users to add another layer of privacy by routing zBNB through their own private addresses before sending it onward. According to the project, that structure reduces wallet visibility without changing the familiar BNB experience. The combination of permanent token destruction and issuance to different addresses also makes tracking and manipulation on-chain harder.

Support is limited to wrapped assets for now

At this stage, zERC20 supports only wrapped assets such as ETH, BNB, and USDC. The team warned that any investment products or trading schemes promoted as zERC20-related outside those supported assets carry a high fraud risk. The project has drawn attention from crypto figures including Nina Rong and former Binance CEO CZ, who has commented positively on its privacy features.

Institutional activity on BNB Chain continues

Alongside the zBNB launch, BNB Chain also announced a strategic alliance with CMB International Asset Management, part of China Merchants Bank, to bring what it described as Asia-Pacific’s leading money market fund directly on-chain. The source material also says the zERC20 team plans to expand support to more blockchains and additional functions, with the aim of making privacy easier to access across blockchain transactions.

As blockchain usage grows and regulatory attention increases, privacy tools are drawing more interest from both individual and institutional participants. In the case of zBNB, the immediate focus is clear: reduce transaction visibility on BNB Chain while letting users keep control over how much of their on-chain activity can be seen.
