Zero Gravity Labs (0G Labs) and the 0G Foundation have announced a combined $290 million in financing commitments to develop what they claim will be the world's first decentralized artificial intelligence operating system (dAIOS). The funding includes a $40 million seed round for 0G Labs, adding to a prior $35 million pre-seed round earlier this year, and a $250 million liquidity commitment for the 0G Foundation, bringing the total capital raised for the project to $325 million.
Funding Details and Investor Lineup
The seed round for 0G Labs was led by notable venture capital firms including Hack VC, Delphi Digital, OKX Ventures, Samsung Next, Bankless Ventures, and Animoca Brands. Individual investors such as Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal and New World Development CEO Adrian Cheng also participated. The 0G Foundation's $250 million "liquid line" allows access to digital assets held on exchanges at over-the-counter rates, providing financial support for ongoing and future developments within the 0G ecosystem.
Michael Heinrich, CEO of 0G Labs, stated: "With dAIOS, we're building an open and decentralized AI Operating System that ensures security, transparency, and accessibility. This funding will allow us to accelerate our mission." He emphasized that the push toward decentralized AI addresses concerns over centralization of AI technologies, such as control and transparency issues, by running on decentralized infrastructure rather than traditional centralized frameworks.
Technical Highlights: 50GB/s On-Chain Data Processing
The proposed dAIOS is designed to feature decentralized data processing and storage at speeds up to 50 gigabytes per second. This high-throughput system reportedly supports AI processing directly on blockchain networks without off-chain data handling, a unique advantage according to 0G's developers. By eliminating reliance on off-chain computation, dAIOS aims to prevent data tampering and privacy leaks, making it one of the first blockchain-native systems capable of natively handling large-scale AI workloads.
The 0G Foundation also plans to foster a developer community aligned with its decentralization ethos, with partnerships aimed at strengthening research and development in decentralized AI solutions. The long-term goal is to transfer ownership and control of AI technology back to users through open protocols and community governance.
Market Impact and Industry Outlook
The scale of this financing places it among the largest in the intersection of AI and blockchain, signaling strong capital interest in the decentralized AI race. As concerns grow over the concentration of power among traditional AI giants like OpenAI and Google, projects like 0G offer a potential path toward AI democratization. Analysts suggest that if dAIOS achieves its claimed performance metrics, it could disrupt markets in cloud computing, big data analytics, and AI model training.
Next steps include a planned testnet launch in 2025, followed by a gradual transition to mainnet. The foundation is expected to announce additional partnerships and developer incentive programs in the coming months.
