Funding Overview: $325M Boost for Decentralized AI
Zero Gravity Labs (0G Labs), the primary developer within the 0G ecosystem, has secured a total of $325 million in funding to build what it claims will be the world’s first decentralized artificial intelligence operating system. The company raised $40 million in a seed round from multiple venture capital firms, adding to a prior $35 million pre-seed round earlier this year, bringing 0G Labs' own fundraising total to $75 million. Separately, the 0G Foundation, an independent entity overseeing long-term governance of the 0G Protocol, received a $250 million “liquid line” commitment, enabling access to digital assets held on exchanges at over-the-counter rates. Combined, the total funding for 0G’s decentralized AI project reaches $325 million.
Investor Lineup: Top VCs and Industry Leaders
Notable investors include Hack VC, Delphi Digital, OKX Ventures, Samsung Next, Bankless Ventures, and Animoca Brands, as well as individual backers like Sandeep Nailwal and Adrian Cheng. This diverse group underscores strong institutional confidence in the decentralization of artificial intelligence. The 0G Foundation stated that the $250 million commitment is intended to provide financial support for ongoing and future developments within the 0G ecosystem as needed.
Core Technology: dAIOS – Native On-Chain AI Operating System
0G Labs plans to launch dAIOS, a decentralized AI operating system designed to address concerns over centralization, including control and transparency. The system features decentralized data processing and storage at speeds up to 50 gigabytes per second. This high-throughput architecture supports AI inference directly on blockchain networks without off-chain data handling, a unique advantage touted by the developers. By keeping data and computation on-chain, dAIOS aims to provide security, transparency, and accessibility that centralized AI systems lack.
Foundation Role: Liquidity Support and Ecosystem Building
The 0G Foundation’s $250 million commitment functions as a liquidity line, allowing access to digital assets at favorable rates. These funds will be deployed on an as-needed basis to fuel ongoing R&D and project incubation within the 0G ecosystem. The foundation also plans to cultivate a developer community aligned with its decentralization ethos, forming partnerships to strengthen research in decentralized AI solutions.
Industry Significance: Challenging the Centralized AI Landscape
“With dAIOS, we’re building an open and decentralized AI Operating System that ensures security, transparency, and accessibility. This funding will allow us to accelerate our mission,” said Michael Heinrich, CEO of 0G Labs. The project aims to upend the current concentration of AI compute and data among a few tech giants, offering a trustless alternative. If successful, dAIOS could enable a new paradigm where AI services are governed by decentralized protocols, empowering a broader user base and fostering innovation outside the control of centralized entities.
