Zhipu has confirmed that Ox Alpha is a new version in its GLM model family and said the model weights will be released publicly tonight. The confirmation follows earlier community speculation that linked the model to Zhipu through clues such as API error messages and tokenizer behavior. Ox Alpha appeared anonymously on OpenRouter over the weekend, where it was positioned for coding and long-running agent tasks while also accepting text, image, and video inputs. According to the information cited by BlockBeats, the model quickly climbed to the top of OpenRouter by usage after launch, with usage already more than double that of DeepSeek. OpenRouter described the launch as the largest model release in the platform’s history. The model also marks a notable product change for Zhipu: unlike earlier GLM and GLM-V releases that separated core language and vision capabilities, Ox Alpha has been identified as a GLM model that can directly process both images and video. Ox Alpha will remain free for another week, while post-trial pricing has not been disclosed.

Zhipu has confirmed that Ox Alpha is a new version in the GLM series and said the model weights will be released publicly tonight.

That confirmation follows earlier community efforts to trace the model back to Zhipu through clues including API error messages and tokenizer details.

According to the information cited by BlockBeats, Ox Alpha appeared anonymously on OpenRouter over the weekend. It is focused on coding and long-running agent tasks, and it supports text, image, and video input. After going live, the model quickly rose to No. 1 on OpenRouter by usage, with usage already exceeding DeepSeek by two times.

OpenRouter said the launch was the largest model release in the platform’s history.

Multimodal support is one of the main changes in this release. Zhipu had previously kept its main GLM line separate from its GLM-V vision models. For example, GLM-5 supports only text, while image and video tasks are handled by models such as GLM-5V-Turbo. In this case, Ox Alpha has been directly identified as a new GLM version while also being able to process images and video. If the final official model name no longer includes a "V," that would indicate Zhipu is starting to bring those two model lines together.

Ox Alpha will remain free for another week. Pricing after that has not been announced.
