Crypto roundup: Trump defends his stock trading, YZi Labs ranks No. 2 among active family offices in August

A wide set of crypto, regulatory and corporate developments landed over the past 24 hours, led by a new post from U.S. President Donald Trump, fresh family-office investment data, enforcement action in Australia, and a string of market and infrastructure updates across Bitcoin, DeFi and payments. Trump said on Truth Social that he had made "hundreds of billions of dollars" for the United States through stocks and other assets and added that he was doing it "for our country, not for myself." Reuters had previously reported that ethics filings showed Trump disclosed at least $220 million and as much as roughly $750 million in personal securities trades in the first three months of 2026. On the investment side, FINTRX data cited by Jiaoban Xinzhi Dian showed that Binance founder Changpeng Zhao’s YZi Labs ranked as the world’s second-most active family office in August, taking part in 10 funding rounds with a combined disclosed round size of $42.1 million. The same dataset showed family offices participated in 109 deals during the month, with disclosed financing totaling $16.9 billion. Elsewhere, Australia’s AUSTRAC said it had canceled, suspended or refused to renew registrations for 45 crypto and remittance businesses over the past year. Market commentary from Two Prime and Wintermute focused on Bitcoin’s rebound, ETF inflows and key price levels, while other developments included Liquid Network fund returns, Cronos’ rollback after the Tectonic exploit, Circle’s deal for Tazapay, and broader stablecoin and banking moves in Brazil, Switzerland and South Korea.

SEC chair says Clarity Act could pass the Senate this month as Kraken parent Payward delays IPO to Q2 2027

A heavy 24-hour news cycle in crypto brought a mix of regulation, market structure, fundraising and ETF flow updates. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the long-watched Clarity Act is scheduled for a Sept. 15 Senate vote and said he expects the bill to pass before heading to the president for signature. He also said U.S. regulators are revising old rules to fit the blockchain and crypto-asset era, and noted that the SEC had already sent a custody proposal to the White House. Separately, Kraken parent Payward has reportedly pushed its long-anticipated IPO to as early as the second quarter of 2027. The company had previously paused a multibillion-dollar listing plan, even after filing a confidential S-1 in November 2025 and raising $800 million at a $20 billion valuation. Other stories in the roundup included Thailand’s finalized crypto travel rule taking effect on Feb. 27, 2027, Ondo’s call for U.S. oversight of stock-linked perpetuals, Bybit’s appointment of Sean Ballard to lead derivatives and institutional business, and new ETF data showing a $101 million daily net inflow for U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs while spot ether ETFs posted a $48.08 million net outflow.

ASTEROID issuer sold most holdings for a $628,000 profit

Lookonchain said on Aug. 1 that a former BNB Chain employee bought 796.7 million ASTEROID tokens, equal to 79.67% of total supply, shortly after deploying the token. The purchases were made through four newly created wallets for a combined cost of $10,000. The same wallet cluster has since sold 718.8 million ASTEROID for 1,103 BNB, worth about $638,000 at the time cited, generating a profit of roughly $628,000. The figures were attributed directly to Lookonchain’s on-chain tracking. The trading activity follows an earlier statement from BNB Chain, which said a former employee had used an original official test wallet without authorization to issue a new meme token identified as ASTEROID. BNB Chain said it had already taken legal action over the matter. The case links the token’s issuance, concentrated early ownership and subsequent large-scale selling to the same former employee identified in the prior statement.

BNB Chain says former employee used test wallet without authorization in ASTEROID meme token activity

BNB Chain said on Aug. 1 that a wallet address previously created by a former employee had first been used to issue the meme token TST as part of a video tutorial, and that the employee is no longer with the company over the incident. According to the statement, the former staff member retained unauthorized access to the relevant seed phrase after leaving and used it to generate a new private key. BNB Chain said it has since learned that the same address is being used independently in activity tied to another meme token, ASTEROID, on BNB Chain. The network said it did not create, authorize, promote, or participate in the token’s issuance and has no control over either the token or the wallet address. BNB Chain added that the matter is unrelated to the organization and not endorsed by it, and said it is taking legal action against the former employee while cooperating with relevant government agencies. BlockBeats had earlier reported that BSC ecosystem meme token ASTEROID reached a $10 million market capitalization within four hours of launch.

BNB Chain says ex-employee-linked wallet was used for TST tutorial token and later ASTEROID activity

BNB Chain said a wallet address previously created by a former employee was used to issue the meme token TST as part of a video tutorial. The company said that employee is no longer with the firm following the incident. According to BNB Chain, the former staffer retained unauthorized access to the related seed phrase after leaving and used it to generate new private keys. BNB Chain also said it has learned that the same address is now being used independently in activity tied to another meme token on BNB Chain, ASTEROID. The network said it did not create, authorize, promote, or participate in the launch of that token and has no control over either the token or the wallet address. BNB Chain added that the matter is unrelated to the organization and has not been endorsed by it. The company said it is taking legal action against the former employee and is cooperating with relevant government authorities over the case.
