Pump.fun’s promotion with Kimchi drew scrutiny after token spikes and sharp reversals

PANews, citing BlockBeats, reported that pump.fun’s rollout of the KIMCHI token on Oct. 20 was quickly followed by official promotional posts and a repost from co-founder Alon, helping push the token’s market capitalization to roughly $35 million to $40 million within an hour. The report said a wallet labeled "Kimchi" by pump.fun received creator fees permanently tied to the token and held 75.32% of supply. A second episode on Oct. 22 centered on a "project kimchi" poster carrying pump.fun branding, app store badges, and a QR code. After Alon reposted it, the related token’s market cap briefly climbed to about $10 million to $15 million before the posts were deleted and the token fell below $300,000, according to the article. BlockBeats also said the earlier KIMCHI token dropped 49% after the incident and was down about 70% from its peak. The article further cited on-chain analysis claiming that three addresses that bought before the first ad post made about $100,000 in roughly nine minutes, while the address labeled Kimchi also received 1.35 billion PUMP from Binance and OKX hot wallets over three hours, worth about $6.25 million to $6.43 million. PANews noted that the piece reflected the author’s views and did not represent investment advice.

Kimchi-linked meme coin spikes to $10 million before collapsing after deleted post and repost reversal

A community-circulated claim on Oct. 23 said crypto influencer kimchi posted an image containing a QR code that directed users to a meme coin bearing the same name. Information tied to the episode said a kimchi-linked address held more than 50% of the token supply, and that the coin was different from an earlier Kimchi token that had previously raced to a $30 million valuation. Pump.fun co-founder alon then reposted the post, helping push the new token’s market capitalization to roughly $10 million in a short period. The move quickly reversed. Alon later removed the repost, kimchi deleted the original post, and the influencer also removed the word pump.fun from a personal profile. The token then fell sharply, with its market capitalization quoted at about $190,000 at the time. Separately, GMGN market data showed that the earlier Kimchi token also accelerated lower that morning, with its market capitalization reported at about $12.81 million. The incident triggered backlash in the community, with some crypto investors accusing kimchi and alon of conduct they said may have been illegal.

Pump.fun opens in-house Pump Bridge to all users, says buy error rate fell below 1%

Pump.fun co-founder and COO Alon said on X that the platform’s in-house cross-chain bridge, Pump Bridge, is now available to all app users. Based on test data he shared, Pump Bridge delivered roughly 2x faster buy execution than Relay, the third-party bridge service previously used by the platform. He said the transaction error rate dropped 92%, falling from more than 11% to under 1%, while the same amount of capital on average received more tokens. He also said the bridge currently charges no extra cross-chain fee. According to Alon, Relay previously saw about one failed transaction for every nine cross-chain buys. A typical trade took close to four seconds, and about 10% of transactions took more than seven seconds. He added that the social trading app FOMO is still using Relay. The results came from randomized tests run between Sept. 28 and Oct. 7 across Robinhood, BSC, Base, Arc and Ink, excluding Ethereum. The dataset covered 416,669 transactions, including 383,326 used to measure execution time and 35,333 USDC buys under $500 used to compare execution outcomes. Alon also said Pump.fun charges a 0.45% platform fee, while Callout rewards distribute at least $300,000 per day and about $20 million over the past two months.

Pump.fun says its in-house bridge doubles buy speed versus Relay

Pump.fun co-founder and COO Alon said the meme coin launch platform only began supporting cross-chain swaps about five months ago after spending a long period focused on its launchpad product. After reviewing Relay, the cross-chain provider it had been using, Alon said more than one in nine cross-chain buys on Relay resulted in errors, a typical buy took close to four seconds to land, one in ten took more than seven seconds, and users usually received fewer tokens than they should have. He added that social trading app FOMO still relies on Relay. Alon said Pump Bridge, Pump.fun’s in-house cross-chain bridge, is now available to all users across Pump.fun apps. Based on randomized tests run in the Pump.fun mobile app from Sept. 28 to Oct. 7, Pump Bridge cut buy landing time by 2x, reduced the error rate by 92% from more than one in nine to under 1%, and delivered more tokens on average for the same amount of money, while charging no extra cross-chain fee at this stage. The tests covered Robinhood, BSC, Base, Arc and Ink, excluded Ethereum, and logged 416,669 transaction outcomes.

Solana meme coin Kimchi hits $40 million market cap within an hour of launch

A newly launched Solana meme coin, Kimchi, reached a $40 million market cap within one hour of going live, according to GMGN market data cited by BlockBeats on Oct. 21. The token was later quoted at $38.71 million, with trading volume reaching $23.7 million. The report also said X user Kimchi (@kimchi1x) currently holds 75.32% of the token’s total supply. BlockBeats described the trader as known for a low-profile and mysterious online persona. The account rarely posts trade records or trade calls, and instead mainly shares photos and videos of luxury lifestyle content, including travel, cars and watches. Its X bio has been changed to @pumpfun. Pump.fun co-founder alon said in a post that Kimchi is the first person to truly bridge crypto and pop culture, and the first case of a trader becoming a public celebrity. He added that the next wave of users will not come from CT, or Crypto Twitter, but from a broader mainstream audience, and said Pump.fun is pleased that Kimchi can help shape the project’s creative direction as it pushes for ecosystem growth.

Pump.fun co-founder says about $5.9 million in PUMP has left circulation since Custom Pairs launch

Pump.fun co-founder alon said on X that roughly $5.9 million worth of PUMP has been removed from circulation since the platform rolled out its Custom Pairs feature last month. According to his post, that amount represents 0.33% of the token’s current circulating supply. He said the figure mainly consists of tokens locked in liquidity pools, tokens that have been burned, and tokens held in the protocol fee wallet. Alon also gave an annualized estimate based on current trading activity in PUMP-related pairs. If that pace holds, the amount of PUMP leaving circulation each year would equal about 3.35% of the token’s current circulating supply. In the same post, he said growing on-chain trading activity could allow Custom Pairs to bring additional trading volume and buy-side demand to smaller-cap meme coins and other on-chain tokens.

Pump.fun co-founder says reward algorithm will be revised to curb low-quality token calls

Pump.fun co-founder Alon said on X that the platform is revising its reward algorithm to reduce incentives tied to low-quality token promotion. The change is aimed at limiting cases where some users earn rewards by repeatedly recommending low-market-cap tokens without considering whether followers actually make money from those calls. At the same time, Alon said the team is aware of a trade-off: restricting rewards for micro-cap token recommendations could also prevent users who identify high-potential tokens early from receiving proper credit. According to his post, Pump.fun is now studying how to define early recommendations that deserve rewards and is working on a corresponding market-cap threshold. Specific standards have not been disclosed. Alon added that the platform plans to keep refining the reward system, with a focus on rewarding users who genuinely help their followers generate profits.

Pump.fun co-founder says Callout Rewards will shift away from volume and focus on follower profits

Pump.fun co-founder Alon said the platform will make major changes to its Callout Rewards program over the next few days, with some of the revisions taking effect starting with today’s reward distribution. Under the updated framework, rewards tied to Callouts for low-market-cap tokens will carry less weight. Trading volume will also no longer serve as the main basis for payouts. Instead, the program will place greater emphasis on whether followers who copy those trades actually make money. Alon said the goal is to make Callouts generate wealth effects for a broader group of participants rather than mainly benefiting a small number of highly skilled traders. He added that if participants cannot keep helping followers stay profitable on a sustained basis, their chances of receiving rewards will drop sharply under the revised system.
