Crypto overnight roundup: whale liquidations, Treasury buybacks, and a heavy CFTC agenda

A dense 24-hour stretch across crypto and macro markets brought a mix of token airdrops, policy signals, whale liquidations, and AI-related capital flows. Binance Alpha opened the third round of its STABLE airdrop, while Berachain rebranded its stablecoin HONEY to Bera USD, with no contract change but a required re-signing for some permits because of EIP-712 domain separation. In macro markets, the U.S. Treasury said it will at least double the size of liquidity-support buybacks for long-dated nominal coupon securities, lifting the cap per operation from $2 billion to at least $4 billion starting Sept. 9, 2026. After the announcement, Bitcoin briefly rose to $69,749, its highest level since June 2, even as Bitfinex said the rally still lacks stablecoin support. On the regulatory side, the CFTC secured supplemental consent orders against former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison and FTX co-founder Gary Wang, while also scheduling the first meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee and seeking public comment on computing-power derivatives contracts. In markets, major leveraged positions were wiped out across BTC and ETH, including a 1,800 BTC short that was fully liquidated. Hyperliquid’s HYPE token climbed more than 20% after President Donald Trump said CFTC Chair Michael S. Selig was working to bring the platform into the U.S. in a fully compliant way, even as FalconX and Multicoin Capital moved large amounts of HYPE to exchanges.

Berachain rebrands HONEY stablecoin as Bera USD with ticker BUSD

Berachain Foundation said its stablecoin HONEY has been rebranded as Bera USD, with the ticker changed to BUSD. The foundation said the contract address and the token itself remain unchanged, and that only the name and symbol are being updated. According to the announcement, the rebrand is meant to make the asset immediately recognizable as a U.S. dollar stablecoin, especially for more institutionally oriented users. Berachain also noted a technical consequence tied to the change: because the token name is part of the EIP-712 domain separator design, any permit signatures or off-chain approvals previously signed under the HONEY name will automatically become invalid and must be signed again. The project added that BUSD-related updates will be rolled out across integrations soon, with more changes to the stablecoin planned afterward.

Grvt bets on ZKsync to pair perpetuals with yield-bearing assets for retail users

Grvt is building a different kind of onchain exchange on ZKsync. Rather than chasing trading volume alone, the platform is combining perpetual futures with yield-bearing collateral, tokenized stocks, credit products, and treasury-linked instruments in an effort to give retail users a single venue for trading and wealth storage. The article, written by Joel John and Vaidik Mandloi and translated by TechFlow, places Grvt in a broader shift in market structure: exchange commissions have been driven toward zero over time, pushing platforms to look beyond fees and toward interest income, float economics, and product distribution. Against that backdrop, Grvt is presented as an experiment in rebuilding broker and bank functions with tokenized assets. The piece says Grvt processes a little over $1 billion in daily trading volume, has about $46 million in TVL, and roughly $348 million in open interest. It also notes that the company had nearly 90,000 users at the time of writing and had raised about $33.3 million across all rounds, including a $19 million Series A led by ZKsync in September 2025. More broadly, the article argues that crypto’s next battleground may shift from raw infrastructure to distribution, retention, and products that let users earn yield, keep liquidity, and trade without giving up self-custody.

What Stablecoins Are: Peg Mechanisms, Use Cases, and Key Risks

Stablecoins are designed to reduce crypto volatility by tracking fiat currencies, commodities, or other digital assets. They are widely used in trading, payments, and transfers, but depegging, limited transparency, and centralization remain major risks.
