Thai police arrest Chinese suspect wanted in China over alleged $75 million crime network
Thai police have arrested a 37-year-old Chinese man in Bangkok who is wanted by authorities in China over alleged ties to an international crime network and money laundering. Investigators said the network processed more than 500 million yuan, or about $75 million, through more than 133 accounts, according to Thai media outlet Khaosod English. Police alleged the suspect helped criminal groups by arranging cryptocurrency and foreign-currency exchanges and was also involved in securing visas for members of international crime organizations linked to other money-laundering cases. Investigators said he tried to avoid arrest by using forged documents to report his residence and by changing vehicle registration plates before officers located him at a luxury house in Bangkok. Authorities also said the man had overstayed his Thai visa by more than three years. He will now face legal proceedings in Thailand before officials coordinate his return to China, where an outstanding warrant remains in place. The arrest comes against a broader backdrop of cross-border enforcement actions tied to crypto-enabled scams and laundering networks in Southeast Asia.
