Arthur Hayes exits ENA after years of bullish calls, selling about 98% below his original $10 target

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes said he has sold all ENA held in the directional book of his investment fund, Maelstrom, with ENA trading at $0.198 this month when he disclosed the exit. Protos framed the sale against a long record of bullish public calls on Ethena’s token, including repeated $10 price predictions that began in April 2024 and continued through later, lower targets in 2025 and 2026. The report lists a series of posts and remarks in which Hayes described ENA as a core part of the CeFi and DeFi trading ecosystem, said his fund owned large amounts of the token, and urged followers to buy it. Even after ENA fell below $0.70, he argued it could rise 51x from those levels. By 2026, his public target had dropped to $1 and later to at least $0.50, before he finally disclosed a full sale. Based on the original $10 target cited by Protos, the $0.198 trading level at the time of his exit was roughly 98% lower.

Two crypto billionaires sent nearly $100 million to Reform UK in 48 hours, deepening scrutiny around Nigel Farage

Nigel Farage and Reform UK are facing intense scrutiny after two crypto billionaires, Christopher Harborne and BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo, committed nearly $100 million to the party within two days. The donations landed after months of controversy around Farage’s finances, including an ongoing parliamentary standards inquiry into an undeclared £5 million gift from Harborne and a police review tied to undercover footage about possible overseas-funded political activity. Harborne, a Tether shareholder whose wealth was estimated by The Sunday Times at about $24 billion, and Delo, who received a full pardon from President Donald Trump in March 2025 after a U.S. Bank Secrecy Act case, have become central figures in a debate over how crypto wealth is entering British politics. The scale of the money is unusual in the U.K., where campaign finance has historically been far smaller than in the United States. The case has also raised questions about donor residency, proposed limits on political giving by Britons living abroad, and whether Reform UK will be allowed to keep the funds if the law changes or courts intervene.

Arthur Hayes exits Maelstrom directional positions, says markets may need to fall before rising

Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and chief investment officer of family office Maelstrom, said on Oct. 24 that he had exited all of the firm’s directional positions and taken profits on ETH, ENA, UNI, and other altcoins. In a post on X, Hayes said he believes markets "have to go down to go up" and described the macro and geopolitical backdrop as looking "a bit dicey," adding that he plans to stay on the sidelines until he sees an all-clear signal. He did not disclose the size of the positions he closed, nor did he explain what indicators he would use to determine that the all-clear had arrived. Before Hayes published the post, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs had already recorded net outflows for two straight trading days, totaling more than $770 million, according to Farside Investors. CoinGecko data cited in the report showed Bitcoin at $80,747 and Ether at $2,376 as of the afternoon in Taiwan on Oct. 24, while ENA and UNI, two tokens Hayes specifically mentioned, were both down on the day.

The update focuses on the expected timing for the project’s testnet rollout and a related airdrop, while stressing that market participants should stay alert to fraudulent token claims before any official launch takes place.

Lewis Barber sues BitMEX operator HDR Global Trading in London, seeking 324.8 BTC

Lewis Barber has filed a claim in the London Commercial Court against HDR Global Trading, the operator of BitMEX, seeking 324.8 BTC, or about $27.2 million. According to a post by Bitcoin News on X, the case centers on 1,053 losing perpetual contracts trades made between 2018 and 2022. Barber argues that HDR Global Trading was not authorized by the UK Financial Conduct Authority to provide derivatives services in the UK, and that the trades in question therefore should not be enforceable. BitMEX said the claim has been submitted but has not yet been served. The exchange also said it had shut down in September.

BitMEX sued in UK for £20 million as Williams says AI hardware shortage may last more than two years

ChainCatcher’s Oct. 15 morning roundup packed in a wide spread of developments across crypto, regulation, AI infrastructure, public markets and tokenization. The headline crypto legal story came from the UK, where former BitMEX investor Lewis Barber sued the exchange in the High Court, seeking £20 million and alleging that BitMEX offered crypto derivatives to British investors without authorization from the Financial Conduct Authority. Barber said he traded the products between 2018 and 2022 and lost bitcoin worth about that amount. On the macro side, New York Fed President John Williams told Bloomberg that supply for AI equipment may take more than two years to catch up with demand, warning that the buildout of AI infrastructure is pushing up chip prices and the prices of goods that use those chips. He also repeated that the Federal Reserve may still need one more rate hike this year. Elsewhere, the SEC’s revised quorum rule took effect, potentially allowing rulemaking with only one commissioner in some circumstances. Bitwise’s CIO said Q3 data points to the start of a “crypto spring.” Spot bitcoin ETFs posted another day of net inflows, Ondo said its tokenized U.S. Treasury products have crossed $3 billion, and Binance added four new bStocks tokenized securities as eligible collateral. The roundup also covered Avalanche’s role in South Korea’s tokenization infrastructure plans, Evernorth’s XRP treasury strategy, Metaplanet’s proposed zero-coupon convertible bond sale, and a string of AI- and semiconductor-linked market developments.
