Money Is Rotating Into Top Crypto ETFs, but Altcoin Season Still Has Not Arrived

Capital is moving inside the regulated crypto ETF market, but it is not spreading far enough to trigger a broad altcoin rally. On Sept. 9, U.S. exchange-traded funds tied to Ethereum, XRP, and Solana pulled in nearly $59 million combined, while Bitcoin-related products posted $120.24 million in outflows. The shift showed demand diverging among major regulated crypto assets, yet broader market data did not confirm an altcoin season. BlockchainCenter’s Altcoin Season Index stood at 37, well below the threshold of 75. Under that framework, altcoin season begins only when 75% of qualifying top-50 tokens outperform Bitcoin over the past 90 days. Over the last 30 days, SoSoValue data showed that spot crypto ETF inflows remained overwhelmingly concentrated in Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Solana. Together, those four categories captured $5.57 billion out of $5.64 billion in net inflows. The gap is also visible in assets under management. Bitcoin ETFs held $99.33 billion, Ethereum ETFs held $15.69 billion, and XRP and Solana products each managed about $1.5 billion. Far smaller products attracted only limited flows, suggesting that ETF growth is creating rotation within a narrow group of large assets rather than lifting the wider altcoin market.
