Block has rolled out Buzz, a free and open-source collaboration platform designed to let human workers and AI agents operate inside the same shared workspace. Announced Tuesday by Jack Dorsey, the product combines team chat, threads, direct messages, voice, media sharing, code repositories, and automated workflows in a single interface aimed at reducing Block’s reliance on Slack and GitHub. The system uses Nostr for identity, giving each human or agent its own cryptographic keypair, portable history, and permissions across compatible environments. According to Block and comments from company executives, Buzz supports agents powered by any large language model or agent framework, including Anthropic’s Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and Block’s open-source framework goose. The software is available under an Apache 2.0 license at github.com/block/buzz, with options for self-hosting or using a managed version from Block. It is still in an early stage, shipping as version 0.4.21 with desktop builds for macOS, Windows, and Linux, while mobile clients remain unfinished. Block employees say the project is also part of a broader rethink of how teams work when process is no longer locked into tools such as Jira or Asana.
