Glassnode says privacy coins are the year’s standout as most crypto sectors remain below prior highs

Glassnode’s latest market breakdown shows a sharp split inside crypto performance over the past year. Bitcoin is down 36% from its October 2025 all-time high, and the median drawdown across the top 200 digital assets by market capitalization stands at 58%. Yet the privacy coin segment has moved the other way, rising 213% and becoming the only sector to push above its previous peak. The report says the market value of privacy coins in the top 200 climbed from $7.1 billion a year ago to $33.6 billion, with nearly half of that increase arriving in the past 30 days. Zcash (ZEC) drove much of the move, surging 2,496% over the period and accounting for 62% of the sector’s market cap. Monero (XMR), Dash (DASH), and Horizen (ZEN) also outperformed Bitcoin over the last 90 days. Glassnode adds that the latest 30-day rally has been broad, with 91.5% of the top 200 assets posting gains, the widest monthly rebound in that dataset. Even so, only 25 assets are up on a one-year basis, which points to a market where gains have been concentrated rather than evenly shared.

HTX weekly gainers: ARB jumped 111% as privacy tokens and DeFi names also advanced

HTX’s weekly performance table for Aug. 31 to Sept. 6 showed broad strength across several crypto sectors, with Layer 2, Solana ecosystem tokens, privacy coins, DeFi assets and BSC meme names all posting notable moves. ARB, the governance token of Arbitrum, led the exchange’s weekly gainers with a 111% rise, making it the strongest performer on the list and drawing renewed attention to Ethereum scaling infrastructure. RAY, the native token of Solana-based decentralized exchange Raydium, climbed 61%, reflecting continued activity in the Solana ecosystem and demand for DeFi protocols with active on-chain use cases. Privacy-focused tokens formed one of the clearest sector trends of the week. DASH rose 61%, while ZEC gained 37% and ZEN added 36%, putting three privacy-related assets on the leaderboard at the same time. HTX’s data also showed gains in established DeFi names, with UNI up 35% and JST up 18%. MARSCOIN, described in the source as a BSC meme asset, rose 37%, indicating that higher-beta segments remained active as market risk appetite improved. The original report said market attention had spread from a single narrative to multiple sub-sectors, with funds rotating between high-volatility themes such as meme and privacy tokens and infrastructure areas including L2, DeFi and public-chain ecosystems.

ZEC Breaks Above $1,200, Reaching Its Highest Level Since 2018

Zcash (ZEC) climbed above $1,200 on Sept. 7 based on Binance ZEC/USDT spot market data, marking its highest level since 2018 and putting privacy coins back in focus. Binance historical data cited in the report shows ZEC rising from about $856 on Sept. 1 to above $1,200 within six days, a gain of more than 40% that outpaced major crypto assets such as Bitcoin and Ether over the same period. The move was described as a series of breakouts rather than a one-day spike, with ZEC clearing $900 and $1,000 before extending higher. The report also said ZEC has gained more than 2,300% over the past year. Historical pricing showed the token was still below $50 in early September 2025, compared with roughly $1,200 now. Attention has also broadened to the wider privacy-coin segment, with DASH and ZEN posting double-digit gains earlier and seeing clearer capital inflows alongside ZEC. At the same time, the piece noted that after such a sharp advance, short-term volatility risk has increased, and whether $1,200 can flip from resistance into support is now a key level to watch.

Microsoft patches critical Entra ID flaw tied to potential remote code execution

Microsoft has disclosed and fixed a critical security flaw in Microsoft Entra ID, its cloud-based identity and access management platform formerly known as Azure Active Directory. The bug, tracked as CVE-2026-69836, received a CVSS score of 10.0, the highest possible severity rating. According to Microsoft’s advisory, the vulnerability could have allowed an unauthorized attacker to execute code remotely over a network without existing privileges and without any user interaction, while requiring only low attack complexity. Microsoft said it identified and remediated the issue before publishing the CVE. In a statement to Decrypt, a company spokesperson said the fix had already been put in place and that customers do not need to take any additional action. The company also said researchers later changed the exploitation status from “Yes” to “No,” describing the update as an informational revision and saying the flaw was neither publicly disclosed nor exploited in the wild. The disclosure also lands in a broader context: AI is taking on a larger role in vulnerability discovery. The report points to recent examples involving Anthropic’s Claude models and Microsoft’s own MAI-Cyber-1-Flash model inside MDASH, a system that uses more than 100 AI agents to identify and validate software vulnerabilities.

Nvidia launches open secure AI alliance as Anthropic stays out of both letter and coalition

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang used what the source describes as his second-ever X post to announce the Open Secure AI Alliance, a new coalition with 37 founding members spanning chipmakers, cloud companies, security firms, and open-source communities. The alliance argues that closed and open models should coexist, but says open models and testing harnesses are essential for cybersecurity work. The source draws a sharp contrast between the alliance roster and an earlier open-weight letter backed by 32 companies. Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, Cisco, Dell, Hugging Face, IBM, Palantir, and SpaceXAI are described as backing both efforts. OpenAI and Google later signed the public letter but did not join the alliance. Anthropic, according to the report, did neither. The article also links the alliance’s case to a July security incident disclosed by Hugging Face and later claimed by OpenAI on July 21. In that account, commercial frontier models refused to analyze attack logs because of guardrails, while Hugging Face used the open-source model GLM 5.2 on its own infrastructure to review more than 17,000 actions and cut forensic work from days to hours. The source further argues that Nvidia’s push for open models also aligns with its interest in expanding the market for local GPU computing as major AI customers pursue in-house chips.
