Ethereum Foundation flags gas fee changes in Glamsterdam upgrade

The Ethereum Foundation said the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade will include gas fee changes through EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. The update affects the cost of state creation and access. According to the Foundation, most contracts should not be affected, but contracts that rely on hardcoded gas values or other older assumptions may need to be updated, or they could fail or see degraded performance.

Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade goes live on developer testnet devnet-7

Ethereum core developer Terence said the Glamsterdam upgrade is now live on developer testnet devnet-7, marking fresh progress in the path toward public testnet deployment. The update includes changes on both the consensus and execution layers. On the consensus side, devnet-7 brings in EIP-7688, described as progressive containers, along with updated payload deadline settings and builder lifecycle parameters. On the execution side, the rollout covers EIP-2780, EIP-8037, EIP-7928, EIP-8038 and EIP-8282. Terence said EIP-8037 moves state-dependent charging from intrinsic Gas to runtime, while EIP-7928 and EIP-8038 address BAL and SSTORE access ordering. EIP-8282 covers finalization for builder deposit and exit contracts. The announcement points to another step forward for Glamsterdam testing.
