Protos reported that Tether first acquired an 8.2% stake in Juventus and has since increased its holding to more than 11% of total shares, along with 7% of voting rights. Over the same period, Juventus shares have dropped by more than 30%. The report said Tether pushed for full ownership of the club after its first purchase, but majority owner Exor unanimously refused to sell. Even without control, Tether still secured influence inside the club. One of its nominees, Francesco Garino, was appointed to Juventus’ board, while another nominee, Lyons, was not accepted. Protos also cited comments Garino gave to Italian broadcaster La7, where he described himself as “Tether’s trusted man” and said he had known Bitfinex CFO and Tether co-owner Giancarlo Devasini for 50 years, dating back to childhood. The report added that Juventus is currently seventh in Serie A and outside the qualification places for major European competitions.20
