The Dutch Public Prosecution Service has requested the Rotterdam District Court to declare cryptocurrency platform Knaken and its related entities bankrupt, citing 'public interest'. The platform has been offline since early June 2026, leaving approximately 30,000 customers unable to withdraw funds. It is currently under criminal investigation by the Netherlands Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD). Knaken operated euro-to-crypto exchange services without obtaining the required license from the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). Prosecutors conducted searches and seized assets, with no arrests made so far. If the bankruptcy petition is approved, a court-appointed trustee will take over assets and determine creditor distribution.
