Mercado Bitcoin confirms security incident and suspends deposits and withdrawals

Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange Mercado Bitcoin has confirmed a security incident and temporarily halted user deposits and withdrawals, according to The Block. The exchange said customer assets were not affected. Before the company acknowledged the incident, blockchain security firm Hypernative detected more than $40 million in suspicious transfers across multiple blockchain networks. Local media outlet BitNotícias later reported that the unusual fund movements may be linked to the security event. The information available so far does not include further operational details, the cause of the incident, or a timeline for restoring deposit and withdrawal services. The exchange’s statement, as cited in the report, was limited to confirming the incident, pausing transfers, and saying customer funds remain unaffected.

Brazil Central Bank to Deploy Crypto Threat Warning System After $180M Theft

Brazil's central bank has built a real-time early-warning system for cryptocurrency threats and is working with Hypernative, a digital asset threat protection firm, to offer banks and domestic crypto exchanges support for attack identification, response and fund tracing. The system's development accelerated after a July 2025 cyberattack that stole $180 million from the financial system. In that incident, criminals exploited a vulnerability in financial software middleware company C&M, then routed some of the money through exchanges, converting it into bitcoin and USDT. Regina Pedroso, executive director of the Brazilian Tokenization Association (ABToken), said the new system will begin onboarding within the next two weeks, with Foxbit and Mercado Bitcoin involved in the rollout. The relevant institutions have finished testing and already issued some alerts, she added. Brazil is also introducing a separate measure that places a 24-hour preventive hold on cryptocurrency transfers made by individuals, applying to any single transaction or cumulative daily amount above $10,000. The reporting comes from Bitcoin.com News.

Brazil central bank rolls out real-time crypto threat alert system with Hypernative

Brazil’s central bank has developed a real-time crypto threat alert system and partnered with digital asset security firm Hypernative to support banks and domestic crypto exchanges with attack detection, incident response, and fund-tracing capabilities. The move comes after a major cybercrime case in July 2025, when attackers exploited a software vulnerability at financial middleware company C&M and stole $180 million from the financial system. Part of the stolen funds was later converted into Bitcoin and USDT through exchanges. According to Regina Pedroso, executive director of the Brazilian Tokenization Association, onboarding to the system will begin within the next two weeks, with Foxbit and Mercado Bitcoin taking part in the rollout. Authorities have already completed testing and issued some alerts. Brazil will also impose a 24-hour preventive hold on personal crypto transfers above $10,000 per transaction or in cumulative daily value.
