OpenAI2026-09-28 00:46:39OpenAI’s Astra moves from chat to execution across Blender, Unreal, Three.js and KiCadOpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra is being judged less by benchmark charts and more by what developers are asking it to build. Recent demos from independent developers and OpenAI engineer Thomas Ricouard show the model working through software interfaces rather than simple text generation. In one case, developer Tom Krcha fed Astra an old steam locomotive blueprint and had it reconstruct the design inside Blender, where it produced 3,295 editable objects including wheels, rods, rivets and the boiler. Krcha said the system was not clicking through Blender like a human modeler; it was writing Python scripts through Blender’s bpy interface to create geometry part by part. OpenAI also showcased Astra building a minimalist house from a single prompt, then checking its own preview renders, correcting lighting, composition and even a misoriented sink normal before exporting the scene into Unreal Engine 5. The workflow continued through FBX export, JSON scene description, material rebuilding, collision setup and a native Mac app where users could open doors and activate a coffee machine. Separate demonstrations extended the same pattern to Three.js procedural scenes and KiCad PCB layout. OpenAI’s Sept. 1 safety update said Astra became the first model to hit the company’s “critical” cybersecurity threshold, with a 100% score on ExploitBench and stronger results than GPT-5.6 Sol on OSWorld 2.0.20
