BabyDoge acquires LimeWire as LMWR becomes the platform’s native utility token
File-sharing platform LimeWire said it has been acquired by the Web3 ecosystem BabyDoge, with financial terms of the deal undisclosed. The handover also marks a leadership change: co-founders Julian Zehetmayr and Paul Zehetmayr, who rebuilt LimeWire’s technical foundation over the past five years, are stepping aside, with Abel Czupor and BabyDoge taking over leadership of the platform. Czupor said the infrastructure built by Julian and Paul is used by about 8 million people each month. As part of the transaction, LMWR will become LimeWire’s native utility token and will be used for services including decentralized file storage and the platform’s AI tools. LimeWire added that an updated product roadmap for LimeWire Network is expected in the coming weeks. BabyDoge said its community has more than 3 million users and that it previously set a Guinness World Record tied to animal charity donations. LimeWire was rebuilt and relaunched in 2022, and said it is not affiliated with the original Lime Wire LLC or Lime Group LLC.
