Tether lifts physical gold holdings to 146.2 tons in Q2 as BTC stash nears 99,000

Tether said in its independent attestation for the second quarter of 2026 that both its Bitcoin and physical gold holdings reached record highs by the end of June, even as crypto market volatility reduced the book value of its BTC position. The company reported holding about 98,933 BTC as of June 30, up from 96,185 at the end of 2025, while the carrying value of that position fell to $5.802 billion based on a settlement price of $58,642.15 per coin. In contrast, Tether’s holdings of LBMA-standard physical gold rose to about 4.7 million ounces, or roughly 146.2 metric tons, lifting the book value of that reserve to $18.838 billion. The report also outlined how Tether is extending its gold strategy beyond reserve management. It said the company bought a stake in Gold.com for $150 million in February and is using that investment to connect its tokenized gold product, XAU₮, with a vertically integrated precious-metals supply chain. Tether has also partnered with crypto lender Ledn to offer loans backed by Tether Gold, allowing holders to obtain liquidity without selling their gold exposure.
