Cardano to add Leios in Dijkstra upgrade, targeting 10x-15x higher transaction throughput

Cardano said in a post published on Oct. 20 that its next upgrade, Dijkstra, will introduce a new consensus technology called Leios. The project said the goal is to raise the network’s transaction processing capacity by 10x to 15x over time rather than all at once. According to the announcement, Leios will be rolled out cautiously and is expected to expand gradually only after at least two parameter updates. Cardano also made clear that deployment in the Dijkstra upgrade will mark the starting point of Leios development, not a full launch from day one. The update was cited by Techub, with CoinPost referenced in the source note.

Cardano says Leios public testnet hit 6x mainnet peak processing capacity

Cardano’s throughput upgrade proposal, Leios, has completed operation on the Earth-phase public testnet, according to Techub News, citing U.Today. The test ran for 41 days and reached peak processing capacity equal to six times that of the Cardano mainnet. During the stable operating phase, the system carried 54% of on-chain traffic. The report said the upgrade increased network transaction capacity without changing Cardano’s security model, a point that positions the result as a technical check on whether scaling gains can be achieved without altering the chain’s core security assumptions. In the final phase of the test, Leios moved transaction volume equal to 18 times the mainnet level and data volume equal to 3.3 times the mainnet level. The completion of the test was presented as technical validation for Cardano’s broader scaling upgrade. No additional implementation timeline was provided in the source material.
