Illinois2026-09-30 04:42:51Illinois issues draft rules for its 0.2% digital asset transaction taxIllinois tax authorities have released draft rules for the state’s enacted 0.2% digital asset transaction tax, laying out how the levy would apply across several crypto activities. The draft says stablecoins would be treated as taxable digital assets, while non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, would fall outside the tax scope. The proposal also draws lines around decentralized finance activity. DeFi transactions would generally qualify for an exemption, but fees paid by users that are deemed "valuable consideration" could still trigger the tax. The draft gives protocol fees used to operate or maintain a platform as an example. By contrast, network fees and swap fees paid only to liquidity providers would not be taxed. The rules also say cross-chain bridging conducted through a digital asset broker and involving consideration would count as a taxable exchange. Transfers from centralized exchanges to self-custody wallets could also be taxed if the exchange charges a fee. The law was approved in June and is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027. Illinois tax authorities are accepting public comments on the draft through Oct. 30, according to ChainCatcher.250
Magic Eden2026-09-25 16:17:19Magic Eden says old Ethereum NFT listings may still be exposed through Payment Processor V2 flawMagic Eden said NFTs listed on its EVM marketplace between roughly February and October 2024 may still be at risk because of a bug in Payment Processor V2, an NFT trading protocol built and maintained by Limit Break. The company said no active Magic Eden listings were affected, but older approvals tied to the contract may still remain in place. It urged anyone who listed or traded on its EVM marketplace to revoke the V2 contract’s "approved for all" permissions on Ethereum, Polygon, and Base through Revoke.cash. The warning followed disclosures from Yuga Labs Vice President of Blockchain 0xQuit, who said an attacker used the flaw to steal 10 Meebits, 50 Otherdeeds, 10 World of Women NFTs, and 235 Desperate ApeWives. Because Payment Processor V2 could not be paused, a whitehat rescue operation was launched after Limit Break paused V3, which shared the same issue. According to 0xQuit, the effort secured 23,155 NFTs worth more than $5.7 million, though 660 WETH exposed to a reverse form of the exploit was not recovered in time. Magic Eden had already stopped using the contract in October 2024 and shut down its EVM marketplace in early 2026. The episode comes a day after Bitget lost more than $380 million in Ethereum and other crypto assets in what Decrypt described as the year’s largest crypto hack so far.270
Clarity Act2026-09-14 14:37:21Clarity Act odds jump to 31% after Trump backs ethics revisions ahead of Senate voteThe odds of Congress passing the Clarity Act climbed to 31% after President Donald Trump agreed to updated ethics provisions tied to the bill, according to Decrypt’s Morning Minute newsletter by Tyler Warner. The Senate is set to vote on cloture at 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and 60 votes are required to move the legislation to floor debate. Republicans hold 53 seats, but at least two are expected to oppose the measure, leaving supporters in need of roughly nine Democratic votes. As of Friday, no Democrat had publicly committed, and Senator Cory Booker said the revised draft still did not go far enough. The rewrite released Thursday runs 630 pages and adds more than 114 provisions requested by Democrats. One key policy change would place "decentralized-in-name-only" protocols under Commodity Futures Trading Commission registration and Bank Secrecy Act rules. Decrypt also noted that the ethics language had not been changed in the rewrite itself, which remained a central obstacle. The newsletter also tracked market moves. Major cryptocurrencies traded higher, with BTC at $77.8K and ETH at $2,510. Spot Bitcoin ETFs posted $13 million in net outflows on Friday, while spot Ethereum ETFs drew $216 million. On-chain, Pump introduced a Holder Rewards feature, and NFT prices were broadly flat, with Argonauts and Cat Street Broker leading gainers.1210
Crypto Market2026-09-04 12:31:31Crypto Rallies as Rate Hopes Cool, Bitcoin Reclaims $81,000 and ETFs Post Biggest Inflows Since JanuaryChristopher Waller said Thursday he would be inclined to support holding rates steady if inflation data keeps improving, and crypto markets reacted fast. Bitcoin climbed back above $80,000 and briefly topped $81,100, while the Dow added 453 points and more than 119,000 traders were liquidated for over $500 million. Spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $731 million, their largest net inflow since January, and ether funds added $141 million. Altcoins moved sharply higher too, with XRP up 7.8%, BNB and Solana each rising about 5%, Ether gaining 4.7% to $2,497 and Zcash jumping 18% to a new all-time high above $1,000. Riskier names were even wilder: PONS surged 56%, Lighter gained 16.8%, Ethena rose 13.6%, Arbitrum added 12% and SPX6900 climbed 13.2%. The report also noted fresh product and policy developments, including Polymarket Perps, Coinbase’s SEC filings for single-stock perpetual futures, Standard Chartered’s institutional spot crypto trading in Dubai, and a SoFi-Kraken deal linking dollar settlement and crypto order flow.1050
Bitcoin2026-09-02 11:55:48Bitcoin Slips Into ‘Rektember’ After Its Best August Since 2017Bitcoin opened September on weaker footing after posting a 25% gain in August, its strongest monthly rise since November 2024 and its best August performance since 2017, according to Decrypt’s Morning Minute newsletter by Tyler Warner. The piece says BTC fell below $77,000 as broader risk markets softened, with oil prices and sovereign bond yields climbing. Warner notes that September has historically been Bitcoin’s weakest month on average since 2013, though the last three Septembers have still finished in positive territory. The newsletter ties current pressure to macro developments. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized elevated inflation in his Jackson Hole speech on Friday, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield rose to 4.784% and markets priced in a 66% chance of a 25-basis-point hike at the September 16 meeting. WTI crude also moved to $88 a barrel, up 2% on the day and its highest level since late July, after continued U.S. strikes against Iran. Beyond Bitcoin, the update covers $237 million in net outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs on Tuesday versus $8.6 million in inflows to Ethereum ETFs, an SEC proposal that would let blockchains function as official ownership records for transfer agents, plans by 21 banks and asset managers to form a stablecoin company in 2026, and fresh activity across Robinhood Chain, meme coins, token launches, and NFTs.1070
Robinhood Cha2026-09-01 22:30:49StonkBrokers on Robinhood Chain push NFTs into a securities gray zoneStonkBrokers, a 4,444-piece NFT collection on Robinhood Chain, has become one of the most closely watched experiments in tokenized finance and digital collectibles. The collection’s floor price has risen 77% over the past month, and holders can accumulate Stock Tokens on Robinhood’s Ethereum layer-2 network, gaining exposure to names such as Tesla, Amazon, and Nvidia. Those tokens are available to investors in more than 120 countries, though not in the U.S., U.K., Canada, or Switzerland. The project sits in a legal gray area. Holders must pass geographic and network screening and attest that they live in a permitted jurisdiction to receive Stock Token rewards, yet the NFTs themselves can still be bought and sold on secondary markets without going through the same KYC steps required of Robinhood customers. Lawyers interviewed by Unchained said the structure combines regulated financial products, offshore issuance, NFT-based wallets under ERC-6551, and reward mechanisms tied to social-media promotion in a way that lacks clear precedent. The setup also revives questions raised by past SEC NFT enforcement, including the Stoner Cats 2 case. StonkBrokers’ documents avoid framing payouts as passive income and instead describe them as compensation for services, but legal specialists said it remains untested whether that distinction would hold if regulators scrutinize the model.970
WNBA2026-08-24 15:28:02Protos: Crypto Bros Are Harassing WNBA Players AgainProtos says a group of self-described crypto entrepreneurs has again thrown sex toys onto WNBA courts, this time without using a profit scheme to frame the stunt. The outlet revisits last year’s Green Dildo memecoin promotion, when the group created NFTs and opened Polymarket markets tied to the harassment. It also says the group now claims to back protests against the WNBA’s acceptance of trans athletes, while noting that no trans athletes currently have ever played in the league. Protos adds that people caught throwing the objects have been arrested and handed indefinite bans from WNBA and NBA games, and says copycats appear to be fading faster than last year.450
