Independent distributor Neon released the first trailer for OpenAI biographical drama Artificial on Sept. 8, putting renewed attention on a film that was dropped by Amazon MGM Studios after production had already wrapped. The movie stars Andrew Garfield as OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman and centers on the internal power struggle that culminated in Altman’s brief ouster in November 2023. The trailer opens with Garfield’s Altman walking alone through the OpenAI campus and into an underground vault, while a voice says, 「We opened Pandora’s box together. The future is inevitable.」 It later cuts to another line: 「Nations will fall, industries will collapse, and we will be the ones leading people into a new world.」 The teaser ends on a face-off between Altman and former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever. Directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by former Saturday Night Live writer Simon Rich, the 140-minute film reportedly cost about $40 million and was co-produced by companies from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy. Neon, which acquired global rights in late June 2026 on a no-minimum-guarantee basis after several studios passed, has said it wants to push the film into the Oscar race. The movie is scheduled to premiere at the New York Film Festival on Oct. 5, 2026, followed by a London screening on Oct. 11, a limited North American release on Dec. 25, and wider release in January 2027.

Mozilla is testing a new “Smart Window” in Firefox, a separate optional space where users can chat with an AI assistant of their choice while browsing. The feature is being offered through a waitlist and stays off by default. Mozilla says users can decide when, how, or whether to use AI at all, and can turn it off if they do not want it. The company frames the project as user-controlled and says it is building in the open, with feedback from early testers. The Smart Window sits alongside Firefox’s Classic and Private modes, and Mozilla says it is meant to avoid the lock-in it associates with browsers made by AI companies. The feature also extends existing AI tools in Firefox, including the desktop sidebar chatbot and Shake to Summarize on iOS. Mozilla says AI should be “open, accessible, and driven by choice.”

Developer Haganeiro said on X that the vulnerability described in update 3.1.0 had been fixed and that the malware tied to the affected maps had been disabled. Separately, developer lemorion_1224 said a systems engineer’s PC was infected during work to patch the issue, allowing attackers to bypass two-factor authentication on Discord, alter server permissions and lock out staff. The official Discord server has since been restored, the involved accounts have been banned, and a new invite link has been issued.
